Job Description

Position Purpose:

Under direct supervision, assists with the operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

Routine Responsibilities (under direct supervision)

  • Collects water samples using good laboratory hygiene protocols.
  • Conducts routine water sample laboratory analyses as directed, accurately enters results into the specified logbooks and Hach WIMS.
  • Using SCADA, monitors operating conditions and consulting with the Operator in Charge (OIC) adjusts chemical dosing, flow pacing, or other operational parameters.
  • Assists with equipment maintenance.
  • Performs clean up and housekeeping tasks as directed by management, being especially conscious of leaving an area in better condition after work is performed.
  • Assists with weekly routine assessment of equipment function and records observations.
  • Reports any suspected malfunctions to the OIC or management.
  • Participates in on-site safety training and strives to adopt an Always Safe culture employing Mental Safety Assessments before beginning any work and the consistent use of appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment)
  • Assists with data collection and development of required operational, regulatory, and business reports.

Work Environment:

  • Work is to be conducted in the industrial environment of water treatment plants which includes the use of chemicals, rotating equipment, and electrical panels.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Some technical or mechanical work experience preferred.
  • Concurrent enrollment in Water Operator Training Program

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Effective verbal and written communication employing active listening techniques.
  • Willingness to develop interpersonal skills and contribute to the diverse team.
  • Demonstrate honesty and integrity and a sense of responsibility for public health.
  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions while employing critical thinking and asking questions.
  • Knowledge of word processing and database software preferred.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must be able to pass drug screen and background check.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, and to safely lift tools and materials up to 50 pounds.
