On behalf of eight SoE academic departments, Engineering Research Administration (ERA) administers 900+ annual awards and approximately $121 million in annual sponsored research. ERA is a high-volume and productive administrative unit, and ERA staff collectively manage the pre- and post-award activities for a large and diverse portfolio of sponsors (over 290 different funders). ERA is looking for a Training Specialist who will train ERA staff (and SoE partners) on comprehensive research administration topics, as well as how to effectively manage the proposal and award activities for a complex set of federal and non-federal sponsored research projects, which may include subawards, multiple principal investigators, and/or cross-school initiatives. Incumbent will need to be a subject matter expert in pre-award and post-award administration, will have experience in developing and leading training programs and activities in these areas.Your responsibilities include:

    Develop, prepare, revise, and finalize project budgets, and provide budget justification; obtain cost sharing commitment and support. Serve as liaison and active partner between principal investigators, Office of Sponsored Research, research groups, and other departments; respond to sponsor inquiries; advise of new regulations.Develop and communicate reports supporting project status; create forecasting models, scenarios, and decision aides.Interpret complex university and government policies (FAR, Cost Accounting Standards, Office of Management and Budget circulars, sponsored guidelines, etc.) for project and university personnel and help guide other staff in interpreting complex policies.Identify and implement process improvements. Participate in and lead cross campus projects. Train and advise on issues requiring specific technical expertise.Oversee and review work of other staff. May supervise, train and mentor other staff.
Additional duties:
    Design, conduct, maintain, and evaluate research administration training content and programs for ERA.Work with leadership team to identify training needs for ERA staff.Establish a training path for ERA staff, including maintenance and support of the onboarding program (for both staff and manager levels) and mentoring program/partnerships. Promote training and development opportunities for staff, such as recommendation/inclusion of staff in leading trainings, participating in internal/external committees/special projects, etc.Develop and maintain training manuals, job aids, and materials, including timely review and update of content.Coordinate and conduct training, workshops, meetings, demonstrations, etc., on topics relevant to both new and seasoned staff, including topics regarding procedures, policies, customer service, software applications, etc. Incorporate senior/manager components where possible.In partnership with leadership team, assess group and individual skill levels. Monitor, analyze, and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs; provide reports and feedback to ERA senior management.Maintain and enhance the sections of ERA's website that pertain to training, with support from the School's IT department. Write, create, and maintain/update training website content, including links to useful resources.Design and distribute written, graphical, and/or web-based training-related communication and outreach materials for ERA and beyond, such as emails, newsletters, monthly calendars, etc.Provide coaching for employees/program participants.Participate in school- and campus-level working groups and discussions to coordinate, implement, and enhance training programming.Serve in a leadership role for the research administration internship program.Provide back-up/floater coverage for RA proposal/award portfolios, as needed.*Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience (Required):
    Bachelor's degree and five years of job-related experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Required):
    Expert knowledge and fluency of governmental regulations (e.g. FAR).Knowledge and ability to understand, interpret, and communicate university policies and procedures.Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.Excellent analytical skills; extremely proficient in Excel and demonstrated proficiency web-based tools.Strong accounting skills; knowledge of accounting principles.Knowledge of procurement needs, including sole-sourcing, cost analyses, vendor requirements, and small business reporting.Strong knowledge of property management requirements related to Stanford or non-Stanford title of equipment and fabrications.Expert in project management, including managing international collaborations and complex multi-sub award contracts.Knowledge of personnel management, including proposing effort for and training and hiring of students, post-doctorals, academic appointments, regular staff, bargaining unit staff, and consultants, along with the circumstances appropriate for each type of position.Extreme attention to detail.Ability to review a proposal or manage a project with understanding of the overall scope and goal of each sponsored project.Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Certifications and Licenses:
    Cardinal Curriculum I and II must be completed to remain in this position.Knowledge and ability to understand, interpret, and communicate university policies and procedures.Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.Excellent analytical skills; demonstrated proficiency in Excel and web-based tools.Strong accounting skills; knowledge of accounting principles.Expert in project management, including managing international collaborations and complex multi-subaward contracts.Extreme attention to detail.Ability to review a proposal or manage a project with understanding of the overall scope and goal of each sponsored project.Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
    Frequently sit, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation and perform desk-based computer tasks, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing up to ten pounds.Occasionally stand, walk, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, write by hand and sort and file paperwork or parts.Rarely lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing 11-20 pounds.

Pay Range:
The expected pay range for this position is $94,000 to $126,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.At Stanford University, base pay represents only one aspect of the comprehensive rewards package.
