AkzoNobel Coatings has a great opportunity for aTechnical Service Representativethat supports theWood CoatingsBusiness Unit inSouthern California. The Technical Service Representative will provide technical support and training on the use and application of company products, services, equipment and documentation. This position will provide technical service to support our customer within this team.This is a remote work location and the preferred candidate residence to be located in Southern California, Los Angeles / San Bernardino area. Our Technical Service Rep will support the surrounding locations and customers including support of inTijuana Mexico and Phoenix Arizona.

We offer a range of products that meet the unique specifications of our customers and meet country and regional regulations. AkzoNobel is our primary brand for OEM manufacturers around the world, In North America, the Chemcraft® distribution brand is well recognized by wood workers in professional shops.
  • Color styling: Our color experts look to fashion, architecture and design to determine key trends for the upcoming year. The resulting knowledge is shared across our global wood finishes facilities. We use these insights into emerging trends to formulate finishes that allow our customers to deliver products highly desirable to consumers. Our goal is to take our customers' product vision, support it with creative finishes that are efficient, consistent and sustainable.
  • Adhesives: AkzoNobel provides wood adhesives and board resins to the major wood markets globally.

Key Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty safely, satisfactorily, and in a timely manner.
  • Must follow all established safety rules and procedures
  • Must follow and adhere to company's Code of Conduct
  • Formulation of special colors and minor modifications to improve application of curing; preparation of test panels
  • Evaluation of customer's procedures and finished product
  • Test runs & compliant resolution
  • Creates/demonstrates the ability to solve problems
  • Establishes a positive relationship with customers
  • Reviews and discusses activities with sales manager
  • Reports problems to customer and offers corrective action
  • Monitor finishing lines for adherence to established process controls
  • Check incoming materials and/or pre-ships for color and quality
  • Assist in training of finish room personnel Attend all meetings pertaining to finishing
  • Maintain materials and assist in ordering
  • Keep daily records of any variations on finish lines out of the ordinary
  • Problem solving of recurring problems in finish
  • Keep plant personnel informed on finish changes, technical info. And proper handling of materials
  • Dispose or work-off expired materials
  • Maintain master color panels and quality control on materials
  • Look for ways to improve the efficiency of the process
  • Will be assigned to the customers manufacturing operation

Education & Experience

  • Two to four-year degree in related field preferred or 2-5 years' experience in wood coatings or furniture/building products manufacturing
  • Must be knowledgeable & ability to learn various finish application systems and have good color matching skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and safety guidelines
  • Ability to write or verbally deliver correspondence professionally and effectively to all levels of management, peer group and customers
  • Must have effective interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to multi-task and balance priorities
  • Dedicated and committed safety leadership and presence
  • Analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer skills; email, sending reports, etc.
  • Coaching/teaching and decision-making skills
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment in customer's site
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Experience in the coating, chemical industry / paints preferred
