Job Description

Position Summary: Operations Supervisor will delegate and/or perform routine compound processing tasks and lab quality verification supporting compound weighing lists, processing, and the entering of new compounds & returns. They will work with NCI-CAR team to coordinate compound inventories to verify database information along with maintaining the laboratory in a clean and neat manner, review compound storage conditions, and complete disposal of hazardous and/or chemical wastes. This position will provide fiscal responsibility for daily operations while delivering services within the defined metrics and pricing. Operations manager will work closely with APD and PD to maintain budget and continue to promote process improvements to incorporate Thermo 4 I's.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists with chemical acquisition activities, including receipt and review of inbound compound shipments.

Performs inventory procedures on new and returned compounds, as well as those stored at the Repository. Processing will include compound weighing, data entry, labeling, and shelving samples. Performs physical inventories on existing samples as needed including comparison against the database, relabeling, and shelving.

Performs compound solubilization and subsequent creation of microtitre plates on the automated liquid handling systems. Will performs plate replication using the robotic liquid handler. Performs routine maintenance, initial quality checks, and basic troubleshooting of automated equipment.

Fulfills high-priority shipping lists routinely; coordinate team resources for pulling and weighing samples from compound stock containers, completing lists on the local order processing system, labeling samples, and forwarding completed for shipment.

Review the Drug Information System (DIS) to perform simple queries, basic updates, generation of labels, generation of printouts and other tasks as needed.

Preparing required documentation and labels for compound shipments.

Accurately maintains the laboratory and compound storage areas to ensure cleanliness and organization.

Recognize and properly segregate hazardous substances for storage or disposal as needed and assist with labeling of hazardous and chemical waste for disposal.

Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and facility safety guidelines in all tasks. Performing initial quality assurance checks on all procedures they perform. Provides input to potential changes in SOPs and/or Work Instructions when noting deficiencies in the existing procedures.

Attend required meetings with COR and answer any inquiries about compounds.

Communicate with researchers on compound statuses or inquiries that are presented.

Assign tasks to employees as needed.

Provide quality checks for employees on shipping/courier lists.

Generate shipping lists as provided by the contractor.

Required Qualifications:

  • Chemistry Degree or Other Scientific Background Education
  • 3+ years of industry experience or related science field which provides knowledge of laboratory work and / or clinical operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS Degree in chemistry, preferred.
  • Must be fluent in English: Effectively communicate; verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to prepare reports using Excel, Word and experience in MS Office.
  • Knowledge of chemical hygiene, hazard communication, general laboratory practices, and quality assurance/control.
  • Support role model behavior consistent with Thermo 4 I values.
  • Initiative-taking with the ability to complete tasks without continual oversight.
  • Must maintain high level of integrity and reliability.
  • Ability to participate in minor chemical spill clean-up efforts that include full face respirator.
  • All other duties assigned by management team.
Work Conditions:

Ability to work in chemical warehouse environment with strong odor.

Work in cold environments with exposure to dry ice, hazardous materials.

Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures.

Ability to work standing for up to 8 hours.

Ability to use a computer up to 6 hours per day.

Certificates and/ or Licenses:

IATA Dangerous Goods Training

RCRA DOT Training

Work Schedule:

7:30 to 4:30 core hours with additional hours.
