What we need:

Oversees the day to day operation of the Flooring Central Control Room. Leads and supervises a team of technicians monitoring the manufacturing processes throughout Flooring utilizing PAC and InfinityQS to provide instant feedback of process excursions for corrective action. Lead improvement teams at the sites focused on eliminating process excursions and alarms to drive reductions in customer claims, internal off quality and waste. Leads and manages projects to drive business results through implementation of InfinityQS and PAC systems throughout the manufacturing processes within Flooring to provide instant feedback of process excursions for corrective action. Manage and lead improvements in the PAC and InfinityQS systems to support reductions in process excursions, alarm reduction and increased system reliability.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and focus a team of hourly technicians on providing timely, relevant and accurate alarm information to manufacturing. Facilitates alarm pareto review meetings to develop action plans across all Flooring businesses and sites.
  • Develops and works with subordinates in all areas such as employee relations, problem solving, setting and achieving goals, budget control, manufacturing processes, scheduling, disciplinary action, terminations, equipment problems, etc. Provides assistance to employees and supervisors in solving work related problems.
  • Develops solutions to a variety of complex problems, requiring independent judgment creativity and ingenuity to solve.
  • Working in conjunction with site leadership defines, develops action plans, implements process and measures outcomes for opportunities to improve from moderate to high complexity.
  • Manages daily, weekly and monthly compliance, quality, and financial reporting systems.
  • Manages cross-functional projects in areas such as carpet manufacturing, yarn manufacturing, extrusion, backing, Home, IVC and pad operations.
  • Performs work with little or no management direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions.
  • Works closely with all levels of management to implement and maintain process control standards and measurements throughout the Flooring organization.
  • Works with site managers to develop business case for capital expenditure including cost benefit analysis.
  • Oversees cost center operating budget in conjunction with Director. Develops capital budget in conjunction with Director.
  • Lead projects to develop and incorporate monitoring of new processes in the Central Control Room to drive claims, off quality and waste reduction improvements. Responsibilities include:
    • Working closely with site leadership and technical resources to lead teams through the identification of critical process inputs & outputs and specifications identification/development.
    • Work with local and Corporate Engineering teams to establish the appropriate gaging & sensors for process monitoring. This will include completion of ETARs, developing technical requirements and providing technical and financial justification criteria as required.
    • Work with sites to implement PAC and InfinityQS solutions to begin collection of data from new sources or improve data reliability due to existing manual data collection systems.
    • Work with the PAC team to bring the data into PAC if required, develop appropriate PAC charts and graphs to display the data at the site, configure InfinityQS DMS, DCS and RAMS as required and develop InfinityQS Proficient projects for data entry and reporting.
    • Provide site training on the new alarms and systems as required.
  • Lead InfinityQS Introduction, Fundamentals and other training classes as required. Lead basic PAC charting classes as required.
  • Provide InfinityQS server administrative duties such as restarting services when issues arise, coordinating system upgrades with IS and working with the user base to troubleshoot data continuity issues.
  • Lead Six Sigma projects as required to drive improvements in claims, off quality, waste and operational efficiencies.
  • Works closely with all levels of management to implement and maintain process control standards and measurements throughout the Flooring organization.
  • Provides a safe work environment that meets the guidelines of the Company safety program while achieving the departmental safety goals.
  • Performs other duties as required.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline with 5 - 10 years of progressively responsible job specific experience that includes a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role in an environment of comparable size and diversity.
  • Experience supervising hourly employees working in a multi shift operation running 24/7.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification required. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead teams through successful leadership of Lean, Six Sigma or other project teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Minitab statistical analysis software. Proficiency in use of OSI Pi Process Book and Datalink for Excel.
  • Proficiency in InfinityQS Proficient software project development and configuration of Data Management System, Data Collection Service and Remote Alarm Monitoring Service.
  • Knowledge of Mohawk's organizational and functional operating structure, products, and administrative procedures and policies.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of HR policies, practices, and procedures as it relates to employee relations, hiring, terminations, benefit and compensation plans, and administrative guidelines.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and expense control to plan, implement, and control expenditure while maintaining and improving quality standards.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and adapt known methods, system procedures, or operating concepts to new situations. Ability to approach unfamiliar or unusual situations with ease while identifying a range of solutions.

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills in order to effectively interact with Senior Management and internal customers; ability to communicate with others in an antagonistic situation using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict and maintain professionalism in accordance with corporate standards.
  • Ability and willingness to challenge established practices and draw relevant conclusions; ability to persuade, market and sell new ideas; ability to work in a high-pressure environment and exercise good judgment to resolve problems in the absence of formalized guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Excellent human resource management skills to effectively lead and direct a diverse work group and to achieve results through team efforts. Must possess the desire and ability to motivate and direct the activities of others.
