About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Content Marketing & Social Media Specialist will support the SMU Cox marketing strategy and enrollment goals through a variety of job responsibilities within the department, including: strategic planning, content development/
distribution, social media management, and analytics/reporting across all SMU Cox social media platforms and digital
media channels.

This role reports to the Executive Director of Marketing, and works in collaboration with Cox marketing and communication teams and marketing partners across the SMU campus. The role will also be responsible for assisting with the development of an annual content calendar and applying it across social media platforms, to both promote the Cox brand and drive engagement with the Cox School.

Essential Functions:

  • Strategic Responsibilities, Content Creation, and Publishing
  • Assist in development of an annual content calendar, with focus on monthly topics/themes and detailed plans to
    support on a weekly and daily basis across the Cox website and social media platforms
  • Develop an organic social media strategy for Cox LinkedIn, Meta, X, SnapChat, TikTok, & YouTube
  • Leverage social media to support lead generation/revenue goals
  • Make observations and suggestions to improve efficiency or effectiveness for own role, strategy or team
  • Responsible for routine content capture and distribution across Cox social media & supporting digital channels
    (website, email, in-building screens)
  • Independently develop creative assets (graphic design, motion graphics, copy writing) for Cox social media & digital channels
  • Responsible for timely capture, optimization & posting of content
  • Identify opportunities to communicate Cox stories of interest
  • Integrate with Cox Digital channels and other communication platforms to support marketing funnel and strategic
    plans
  • Publish content via Sprout Social
  • Actively engage with social community through social listening and timely response
    • Measurement & Reporting: Analyze & interpret social media metrics using social listening tools, analytics platforms, & SEO to guide campaigns, maximize engagement, & make data-backed recommendations as content is iterated. Assess key metrics including reach, engagement, & lead generation/conversion. Monitor & engage with followers. Conduct quarterly competitive reviews & share best practices. Possess ability to identify negative or crisis situations and mitigate/escalate as needed. May require problem solving skills of data discrepancies.

    • Coaching & Collaboration: Contribute as an active team member and may serve as a resource to junior level staff. Support a positive professional environment through coaching, mentorship, and knowledge sharing across
      the Marketing team, and broader SMU/SMU Cox communities. Collaborate with Cox staff, faculty, & students to source and create engaging content. Coach Cox faculty/staff on content creation best practices.


    Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, or related field.

    A minimum of three years of professional work experience in developing content and implementing strategies across a variety of social media channels or digital marketing is required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop effective relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills, with attention to detail and ability to produce error-free communication and other materials. Strong editing and proofreading skills are essential.

    Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

    Knowledge of graphic design principles for social media application is required. Must also have the ability to shoot & edit photographs/basic video. The ability to spot trends across social media channels is essential

    Candidate must have an in depth knowledge of social media platforms: Meta, X, LinkedIn, SnapChat, TikTok & YouTube. Must also have a strong working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Rush. Experience with and/or a working knowledge of social media content development tools, such as Adobe After Effects and other products in Adobe, preferred. Creative Cloud and Canva, desired.
