Position Summary

The Site-Specific Safety Officer ensures the safety and well-being of all personnel involved in a large construction project. The employee is tasked with implementing and enforcing safety protocols, conducting regular inspections, and providing guidance to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations. THIS IS A TEMPORARY CONTRACT POSITION THAT IS EXPECTED TO LAST APPROXIMATELY THREE YEARS.

Duties and Responsibilities

40% Safety and Compliance

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with all relevant safety regulations, codes, and standards set forth by regulatory agencies and company policies.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of the construction site, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure the availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety gear required for the job site.
  • Continuously assess and improve safety processes and procedures, staying informed of industry best practices and emerging safety technologies.
30% Incident and Risk Management
  • Respond to and investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments of the construction site, identifying potential hazards and implementing measures to mitigate risks.
  • Effective and concise communication with management in the event of an incident.
  • Post-Incident, meeting the injured employee for follow-up appointments and advising management of developments regarding the incident.
15% Administration
  • Facilitate open communication regarding safety issues, providing regular updates to project management and fostering a culture of safety awareness among all personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities, including inspections, training sessions, incidents, and corrective actions taken.
10% Training & Preparedness
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for all personnel involved in the project, including orientation for new employees and ongoing training for existing staff.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and coordination with emergency services.
5% Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education:

Degree: Bachelor's

Field(s) of Study: Occupational Heath and Safety Sciences, Environmental Science, or related field

Certifications/Licenses Required:

Required Experience:

Previous experience in construction safety management.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Advanced:

-- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards

-- Ability to effectively train and motivate personnel

-- Problem-analysis and problem-solving skills

-- Ability to work well with others at all levels of the organization

-- Ability to work under pressure

-- Interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information

-- In-Depth understanding of local, state, and federal construction regulations

Proficient:

-- Organizational & time management skills

-- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and safety management software

-- Physical ability to conduct site inspections and respond to emergencies as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education:

Degree: Bachelor's or Master's

Field(s) of Study: Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field

Certifications/Licenses Preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification

Preferred Experience:
  • Previous experience on large-scale projects, interstate construction projects
