Summary

Reporting to the SVP of the Software Research and Development (R&D) organization, the Sr Director, Software Operations is responsible for the transformation of SW R&D into a mature agile delivery organization that is critical to deliver on Dexcom corporate goals; specifically has the responsibility to drive execution of transformational capability stream roadmaps, establish the Dexcom Agile CoE and direct cross-function change required to build an agile organization. The Sr Director Software Operations will also manage the scaling of existing pilots to other projects / programs / products within software, collaborating with key stakeholders both within the software R&D organization and cross-functionally (e.g., program management, product marketing, cybersecurity, human resources). This role will manage and communicate the software R&D vision, strategic priorities, roadmap progress (based on relevant metrics determined) and execution plans, both within the software R&D organization and across the cross-functional. Additionally, they shall plan and direct administrative, financial, and operational activities for the software R&D organization.

Responsibilties

Transformation office management

  • Manage execution across SW R&D Transformation that is critical for SW R&D to meet commercial goals
  • Engage executives on transformation progress, budget and impact to ensure SW R&D attains required ROI & impact
  • Build, expand, and manage SW Ops team, including Business Analysts to drive effective predictable SW delivery
  • Design and manage execution of long-term behavior change plans (e.g., capability roadmap, agile)
  • Identify potential change impacts to org, and develop change management strategies to address risks
  • Action quick-wins and plan scaling efforts, working to drive cross-functional change required to unlock value based on pilot learnings
  • Establish and measure key metrics to track targets

SW R&D agenda and communication
  • Act as an advisor to the software R&D SVP and liaison with senior leaders and staff in software R&D organization
  • Own software roadmap ensuring single source of truth for org
  • Enable communication and manage interdependencies between Software R&D and the rest of the organization
  • Create executive story-lines; coordinate SW R&D quarterly reviews and represent SW at Dexcom QBRs

Software operations and business development
  • Establish Agile CoE within Dexcom to enable a mature agile organization with the right skills and capabilities
  • Plan and direct administrative, financial, and operational activities on behalf of the Software R&D SVP
  • Engage and manage talent partners for staff augmentation
  • Support the Software R&D SVP through M&A process from target evaluation to post-acquisition integration
  • Spearhead special projects to advance priorities

Qualifications

Technical
  • Experience with software development and lifecycle management processes and concepts (e.g. DevOps, CI/CD)
  • Experienced in large-scale change management programs and agile ways of working
  • Experienced in budget forecasting and resource planning
  • Product management experience preferred

Non-technical
  • Track record of creative problem-solving and critical thinking driven by strong business sense
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong history of creating executive level presentation materials and communications to foster decision making
  • Effective stakeholder-management, cross-functional collaboration, and ability to influence decision-making of others
  • Strong track record of delivering large-scale transformations and leading strategic initiatives
  • Experience executive operations management, budget management, and data analysis and reporting
  • Experience building and leading high performing teams and ability to lead through example
  • Ability to manage complexity while driving clarity

Individual KPI's
  • Timely delivery against SW roadmap, capability build roadmaps, and change management initiatives
  • Timely delivery of SW R&D & team budgets
  • Change program spend (vs. budget)
  • Software R&D org time to hire
  • Execution of quarterly reviews as planned
  • Roadmap management so that it is the single source of truth for org and accurately reflected across
  • Change program effectiveness (e.g.,. based on employee surveys)

Experience and Education
  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree with 17+ years of industry experience.
  • 13+ years of years of successful leadership experience in relevant industry.
