Job Description:

The Senior Director of Engineering for Compliance Platforms is accountable for managing and interacting with business, product, and technical stakeholders within Compliance Platforms and across Merchant business unit, Consumer business unit, and Technology Platforms and Experiences teams. The ideal candidate is an Engineering Management leader with a strong platform-first mindset, has experience in regulatory compliance field, investigations, case management, developing secure, externalizable services at scale, and has a desire to utilize and engender engineering best practices within large, geographically distributed teams. The ideal candidate is passionate about building platforms at scale, cutting-edge technology, innovation, winning in the market and delivering on their commitments. You should have the technical expertise to lead software and architecture discussions and guide cross-functional product and engineering teams through functional definition, solution, and integration stages on large scale. They have a proven track record of leading and mentoring their teams to reach their highest potential.

  • Drive a results-oriented culture with a strong focus on engineering excellence, execution, and craftmanship
  • Recruit, motivate, mentor, and lead the best engineering and management talent
  • Ability to lead complex discussions and engagements that involve multiple project teams from PayPal and our partner organizations
  • Build and scale platforms
  • Construct a business and technical architecture that levers industry standards and use cases to create operating efficiency
  • Provide strategic guidance and direction to development teams
  • Manage geographically distributed teams
  • Manage stakeholder planning and communications ensuring key product data outcomes
  • Anticipate and aggressively remove obstacles that slow down or prevent products and programs from delivering on product and program objectives. Balance urgent and effective action, commitment to excellence, and taking initiative to resolve problems; holds internal stakeholders accountable where appropriate
  • Strong communication, listening, interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills; able to convey important messages in a clear and compelling manner
  • Develops loyalty and commitment in others by communicating clear expectations, developing and mentoring direct reports, and setting an example in one's own behavior

Personal Qualities, Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required
  • Solid track record of over-achieving engineering and platform delivery and scaling targets
  • 15+ years experience as an Engineering Manager with 10+ years direct senior leadership experience
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organization and across multiple domains
  • Passion for leading and developing direct reports; providing guidance, consultation, and opportunities towards improving their professional skill set; ability to lead and influence direct reports remotely
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to manage a large, diverse set of to-do's - vigorously prioritize, stay on top of multiple work streams, monitor progress, hold owners accountable
  • Communication style motivated by brevity and purposeful outcomes with experience interfacing with executives
  • Experience in building and leading a geographically distributed team
  • Payments / Compliance / eCommerce / banking industry experience required

New York City Only : The pay range for this position is as mentioned below per year, plus annual bonus. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining final salary.
