Business Architect Executive

Location : This position eligible for full time remote schedule.

The Business Architect Executive is accountable for managing and communicating the architectural information supporting Business / Technology alignment for one or more Elevance Health business segments or lines of business to assist that business area in achieving its desired outcomes. With a focus on proactive consultation, guidance, and partnership, a business architect provides critical insights on alignment and capability maturity through their understanding of our business and technology strategies, initiatives and how they align into our capability and value stream frameworks. These insights include partnering with business leaders to assist in evaluating new ideas, emerging opportunities, and continuing initiatives; partnering with segment architects to align and measure strategy and business needs into complete, coordinated business models; and working with business and technology partners to guide the evolution of ideas into funded initiatives.

How you will make an impact:

  • Partner with business process architects to create high-level process and organizational views that enable executives to focus their attention in the most-important areas.
  • Work across organizational silos to identify opportunities for collaboration, reuse, and integration as well as to identify and recommend options to resolve dependencies and impacts.
  • Translates business intent into models, guidelines, and guardrails that align independent actions across the business segment organization toward not only achieving the same goals but also achieving common goals through a set of common approaches.
  • Clarify the organization's strategic intent by capturing strategies in a common, goal-aligned framework that aligns strategic intent with planned technology changes and associated metrics needed to measure success, within their associated business unit and in alignment with other business units.
  • Contributes to providing linkage to other Enterprise Architecture groups and models, and coordinate and align activities to achieve the future state capabilities with Business Relationship Management (BRM).
  • Owns creation of Business context diagrams (BCD) for programs and projects that present a graphical depiction of relationships among business stakeholders involved in the solution.
  • Influences direction of Enterprise portfolio planning and its impact to Business Architecture constructs.
  • Defines a common process for how projects are assessed against business architecture artifacts and blueprints; incorporate into overall architecture governance process.
  • Communicates and builds consensus equally effectively with all constituents, including business executives, technologists, end users, and operations.
  • Planning Support
    • Turn ideas into documented plans. This requires listening to the business, capturing their thoughts and turning it into a transparent plan
    • For items on the plan, support the business in maturing them prior to the initiation of funded programs: Goal / scope / vision definition, business case creation
    • Strategy map development
    • Support business case development and financial impact analysis
  • Governance of changes
    • When a new ask is made, present it in the context of current priorities
    • Ensure that official requests match what is on the plan
    • Partnership with the portfolio team to make sure that the portfolio evolves with the business needs
    • Support business and technology road-mapping activities
  • Education of execution teams
    • Provide business strategy and goal context to execution teams and IT stakeholders
  • Maintenance of architecture documents to deliver on above services
    • Business capability models / maps / health assessments
    • Capability process interactions
    • Value stream models / maps / analysis
    • Value stream / capability alignment
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Requires an BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study and a minimum of 10 years experience in Business analysis and strategic planning; IT operations, planning, or leadership; or Strategic and technical architecture with 7 years of experience in architecture/design in relevant technology disciplines; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Has experience with related technology, data, services, functions, applications, etc.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences :
  • Healthcare industry experience strongly desired.
  • Business and organization literacy. Business architects must communicate with business leaders in their language. They must demonstrate a clear understanding of challenges, drivers, requirements, and goals and must articulate potential solutions that address these. For example, business architects should be conversant in the market forces that drive our lines of business and how they impact our benefit products and services.
  • Methods and frameworks. Business architects must be proficient in models and methods, specifically capability maps, strategic roadmaps, journey maps, value streams, and the technology ecosystems supporting our lines of business.
  • Problem-solving techniques. Business architects will often rely on techniques such as strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis; root-cause analysis; and scenarios analysis to understand complex problems and address incomplete and conflicting information, which is common when ideating through business strategy execution.
  • Financial and performance metrics literacy. Business architects must interpret financial and metrics data to verify root-cause analysis, validate potential solutions' alignment to business objectives, and clarify the impact of strategic choices.
  • Technology and enterprise architecture literacy. Business architects must communicate and collaborate with technology leadership and architects to ensure alignment of business and technology strategy, planning, and road maps.
  • Negotiation skills. Business architects work in an environment where they'll meet many stakeholders, each with different goals, values, and beliefs. Hence, they must build trust with all stakeholders to ensure that BA addresses conflicts and drives to positive outcomes. The business architect must know when to compromise and when to be assertive.
  • Facilitation skills. Business architects should have strong skills to facilitate problem solving among groups of business leaders and SMEs. Examples of these skills are brainstorming, JAD, and flow-charting.

For candidates working in person or remotely in the below locations, the salary* range for this specific position is $134,720 to $242,496

Locations: California; Colorado; Nevada; Washington State; Jersey City, NJ; New York City, NY; Ithaca, NY and Westchester County, NY
