Location/Division Specific Information

Alachua, FL / Science and Technology Team (STT)

How will you make an impact?

In this role you will ensure that STT provides its clients with robust, efficient processes that produce the highest quality viral vector therapies to meet customers' needs. The primary function of STT is to develop novel manufacturing and analytical platforms and technologies for use in cell and viral vector manufacturing. As a Scientist II in the STT group, you will work with lead scientists to conceive, implement, and communicate novel development strategies that achieve project and team goals. You will apply your technical and knowledge skills to generate scientific proposals and lead their implementation into the STT laboratory, under the supervision of a principal investigator and/or team manager.

What will you do?

  • Plan and complete all assigned laboratory work and maintain accurate records according to GDP guidelines to support regulatory filings and the STT quality standards.
  • Assist team manager and/or lead scientist with mentorship of junior staff and with the training and implementation of safety and team procedures.
  • Evaluate scientific and technological advances of analytical methodologies that involve viral vectors.
  • Assess project technical and regulatory needs for GMP tech transfers.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed lab records and appropriate documentation.
  • Assist with testing needs to support ongoing process development.
  • Assist in implementing analytical strategies in research and development.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining the efficiency of the Science and Technology quality system.
  • Maintain broad knowledge of principles and theories of analytical instrumentation in liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, AUC, SEC-MALS, FFF-MALS, DLS, capillary electrophoresis, fluorescence, and UV detection and others as needed.
  • Interact with vendors to resolve scientific and technical challenges.
  • Perform routine testing to support both internal and client manufacturing projects.
How will you get here?

Education
  • Bachelors and 3+ years related experience: or, Masters and 2+ years related experience. Degree in chemistry, biochemistry or a related field.
  • Combination of education and experience is flexible based on relevancy.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge of viral vector production and supporting analytics (ELISA, ddPCR, infectious titer).
  • Subject matter expertise in light scattering and its applications to the analysis of viral vectors such as AAV.
  • Familiar with aseptic techniques and BSL-2/2+ containment.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced digital literacy and proactive in learning new systems and processes.
