Reporting to the Sr. Director, Risk Management & Insurance, the Risk Management Program Manager identifies, evaluates, and analyzes risks inherent to the operations of the University, and then develops risk management plans to address those risks. Primary areas of responsibility include managing the Student Health Insurance and Safety and Protection of Minors programs and providing risk management and insurance consultation. The successful candidate has the ability to develop programs, streamline work processes and work collaboratively with other professionals across the University.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities of the Risk Management Program Manager include:

  • Student Health Insurance: Coordinates the Student Health Insurance Plan, to include ensuring compliance of the student populations required to have health insurance. Manages the open enrollment and waiver process each fall and spring. Collaborates with University departments to ensure the proper application of policies and procedures. Serves as the primary point of contact for students, parents, and plan administrators.
  • Safety and Protection of Minors: Oversees the Safety and Protection of Minors Program, to include providing advice, consultation, and guidance on the policy and issues related youth protection. Monitors, tracks, and reports on compliance for youth programs by conducting periodic reviews and conducting site visits to programs. Develops and provides ongoing training in accordance with the policy. Responds to incidents, engaging appropriate stakeholders as needed. Serves as an active member of the Higher Education Protection Network to remain current on best practices regarding youth protection and advocacy.
  • Risk Management and Insurance: Supports various risk management projects and initiatives and maintains current knowledge of higher education risk management trends; makes recommendations to ensure best practices. Develops and creates risk management and insurance processes and procedures; develops and presents education/awareness training and communications on risk management processes. Assists in the collection of underwriting data for insurance policy renewals and the placement of new lines of coverage. Reports incidents to insurers and coordinates claims as needed.
  • Workers' Compensation: Acts as an additional contact for the Workers' Compensation Program to include reporting incidents to insurer; providing claims coordination and support to all involved parties; and providing guidance on workers' compensation policies and processes.
  • Additional Duties: Functions as part of a team to accomplish the Office of Risk Management's objectives and goals. Serves on various committees as a Risk Management representative. Maintains/provides updates to relevant departmental website content, web-based reporting systems, and risk management information systems. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to work under limited supervision and exercise sound independent judgment
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new responsibilities
  • Sound knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of risk management and insurance
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, Adobe Acrobat, and the ability to learn specialized software packages used by the department and University
  • Skill in developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships both inside and outside of the organization
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies
  • Skill in exercising tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential issues and situations
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise and accurate reports, policies, data entries, and other written materials
  • Ability to develop and conduct training programs
  • Required: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience in risk management, insurance, or claims
  • Professional designation in risk management or insurance preferred
  • Work experience in higher education preferred

WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
SALARY STRUCTURE:
Pay Grade 8
