Summary:
The laboratory of Dr. Liya Ding is looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who thrive in a fast-paced, immune-oncology research environment as part of their research team in the Department of Immunology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Centre. Dr. Ding's laboratory applies molecular biology techniques, immunological techniques, cutting-edge multi-omics techniques and multiple model systems, including in vitro coculture systems, Genetically Engineered Mouse Models (GEMMs), patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) and transplantable syngeneic tumor models to address challenging mechanisms in immune suppression and drug resistance in cancer treatment.
The Research Associate will assist with multiple ongoing research projects in the laboratory. The responsibilities includes maintaining mouse colonies, mice weaning and genotyping; dose animals by various routes (e.g., oral, intravenous, intraperitoneal, etc.), measuring tumors by calipers and non-invasive imaging (bioluminescent imaging); perform nonsurgical and surgical procedures on mice, including castration and orthotopically transplantation of ovarian and prostate tumors; collect, dissect, and process tissue/tumor samples for DNA/RNA/protein, immunohistochemical, and flow cytometric analysis; culture various types of cells and perform basic molecular biology experiments; data recording, analysis, reporting and interpretation; contribute to laboratory management, overall vivarium organization, and IACUC protocols.
This position offers the availability to work a flexible schedule based on experiments including holidays and weekends.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience
1. Master's degree and the equivalent of eighteen (18) months of full-time professional research experience in a laboratory, clinical or scientific research environment; or
2. Bachelor's degree and the equivalent of thirty (30) months of full-time professional research experience in a laboratory, clinical or scientific research environment.
NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent major and three years of experience in animal work. The preferred candidate should have excellent communication skills and must be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff. In addition, the preferred candidate should have demonstrated experience with outstanding planning and multi-tasking skills including oversight of day-to-day operations of a lab.
