Research Associate 1 -Coral Nursery Technician

The Coral Reef Futures Lab (CRFL) at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami has an exciting full time position for a Research Associate 1 to serve as a coral technician at the UM Experimental Hatchery.

The CRFL's Experimental Hatchery is ex-situ, land-based coral nursery dedicated to the propagation of Florida corals. Responsibilities for this position include the creation and coordination of daily/weekly aquarium husbandry lists, as well as the training and supervision of a team of students to carry out the upkeep of various coral systems.

Applicants are required to work 40-45 hours per week, ~80% of which will be outdoors. Because Miami's weather can be both unpredictable and at times extreme, sun-protective clothing and head coverage via sunhat or hooded shirt are required. Applicants should also on occasion be prepared to work outside regular hours, as they are accountable for the response to equipment alerts, as well as involvement in nighttime spawning activities.

A Bachelor's Degree in a related field is required. Favorable applicants have a background in aquaculture or related field, as well as knowledge of aquarium husbandry. Applicants with prior reef aquarium or coral care experience are preferred.

The ability to work well with others, paired with the capability to diagnose and manage duties related to plumbing, electrical, or other operational obstacles is essential.
