Job Purpose

The Research and Development Specialist prepares, executes, and analyzes the output of projects originating from Lab Work Requests (LWR). Will work with defined processes and spraying/testing paint systems in accordance with customer specifications. Will also support team members as needed to ensure completion of daily tasks and lab work requests.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manages the assigned lab work request (LWR)/projects on a weekly basis to include timeline and planning.
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant experimental, development and/or analytical approaches and techniques.
  • Prepares, applies, and evaluates paint or paint related materials to identify physical and chemical attributes.
  • Asks appropriate questions to clarify requirements, expectations and critical performance parameters.
  • Documents lab results and visits through appropriate reporting systems, delivering outcome to manager and/or peers.
  • Summarizes test data in the form of spreadsheets, reports, and presentation; draws conclusions.
  • Maintains equipment, troubleshooting as necessary. Will also maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Complies with safety policies and procedures, following safe work practices for personal and equipment safety.
  • Promotes health, safety and environmental regulations by ensuring that standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local requirements.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering.
  • 1-2 years' experience in a laboratory environment within the coatings industry or chemical manufacturing. Related academic experience may be considered is lieu of requirement.
  • Background in chemistry/polymers.
  • Conform with all site and laboratory safety requirements and policies to include the safe use of materials and equipment.
  • Effective problem solver with customer-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% as required.

Total Compensation

The compensation package for this position will include a base salary, annual bonus, and employee benefits that are effective the first day of employment.
