The R&D Power Electronics Engineer is responsible for creating test setup to verify the operation of power equipment to be used in microgrid solutions, write up test plans, prepare lab equipment specifically to each power converter: bidirectional battery charger, PV converter, bi-directional PCSs for energy storage. Prioritize the test tasks according to the lab resources and project deadlines. Perform the test, collect data, and present a test report with key results and technical analysis for evaluation. Maintain the lab test equipment and support R&D project. This position is a hands-on, on-the-job learning position at Excellerate Neenah Development Lab.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor 's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5-year experience, or Master's Degree with 2-year experience.

Experience: 2 or more years hands-on hardware experience in power converters: AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC.

  • Knowledge of power converter topologies: AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC in terms of power flows and control concepts.
  • Experience with bidirectional power converters.
  • Proficiency in programming languages Python, C/C++ and other high level/ scripting language, Labview is preferred.
  • Experience in electronics design: analog and digital design, microcontroller and DSP design, schematic entry, component specification, board layout, test planning and circuit testing.
  • Proficiency with lab equipment: oscilloscope and current/voltage probes for high voltage/current measurement, AC and DC power supplies, power analyzers, function generators, multi-meters, data loggers.
  • Skilled working in lab environment with high voltage and high current power equipment.
  • Passion for hardware simulation and development. Must be a hands-on engineer and excited to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive problem-solving experience.
  • Experience in calibration and maintenance of electrical power equipment.
  • Experience in setting up data logging devices and building battery test fixtures.
  • Experience in generating clear and concise test reports.


Travel: None

Work Schedule: This position works between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday- Friday. However, work may be performed at any time on any day of the week to meet business needs.

This position has some level of remote work based on the project requirements and activities scheduled within the R&D group.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Sets up tests for high-power converters, 50kVA-250kVA in microgrid solutions.
  • Reads and understands manual, schematic, structure, and functionalities of power converter products.
  • Builds power electronic test fixtures and data logging capability.
  • Sets up, troubleshoots, and maintains lab testing equipment.
  • Creates test plan for new technology power converters: AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC.
  • Collaborates with Power Electronics team and Charging team to perform full scope of engineering testing activities to support the design release.
  • Schedules and prioritizes various R&D power electronic tests.
  • Ensures all the testing equipment are up to date with calibration and maintain all the consumable test equipment in stock.
  • Ensures the testing to be done accurately and timely.
  • Executes testing of inverters and converters using test equipment. Writes and modifies power electronic test scripts, executes test scripts, and manages data generated.
  • Process testing data, confirms accuracy of results, and prepares detailed reports in a clear and concise manner.
  • Supports microgrid systems-level testing and manufacturing end-of-line testing when necessary.
  • Supports root cause analysis for field issues.
  • Prioritizes and maintains safety for all aspects of power electronic testing.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
