Position Summary

MAG Aerospace is hiring a Systems Engineer who is focused on collecting accurate, actionable data from soldiers to inform the design of Army sensors and sensor displays. This position would conduct both quantitative and qualitative research, supporting Engineering Psychologists and other scientists, to build custom simulations, to process sensor imagery, and/or to construct visual perception tests. Help build, modify, and maintain the hardware and software infrastructure of these projects.

The projects supported can involve measuring performance with real or simulated sensor imagery, conducting test that examine the cognitive processing of augmented reality information, conducting experiments with augmented reality/virtual reality displays, and conducting evaluations of physical or virtual sensor/display prototypes. This team supports the study of how low-light (i.e., "night vision") sensors, thermal sensors, and advanced displays impact Soldiers and how they can be improved.

This position has a Localized Hybrid schedule option which means there are 2-3 day onsite expectations per week, and telework the other days.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Configuring computers, monitors, and mixed-reality displays for specific experiments.
  • Developing simulation infrastructure.
  • Developing simulation scenario content.
  • Image processing (e.g., processing sensor imagery for human consumption).
  • Developing data-logging procedures.
  • Troubleshooting experiments.
  • Supporting the administration of the experiments.
  • Formatting, analyzing, and archiving collected data.
Requirements

Minimum Requirements

Experience
  • 8+ years of relevant experience
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

Desired Requirements

The required skills and knowledge within the Desired Requirements section should be demonstrated within software programming languages and/or simulation construction.
  • Experience with Python, ideally the PsychoPy software package
  • Experience with Unreal or Unity
  • Experience working directly with stakeholders to develop a product
  • Experience and/or interest in managing hardware/software outside of a traditional office/laboratory environment (e.g. experience managing technology during outdoor "field" tests, experience establishing offsite/remote technology configurations or demonstrations)
  • Experience using online "crowdsourcing" data collection platforms and tools, such as Amazon MTurk, Qualtrics, etc.
  • Experience with user experience design principles
  • Experience with experimental research or data analyses
  • Experience conducting statistical analyses
  • Experience with the R statistical language

Other Qualifications
  • SECRET Security Clearance is also required for this position.
    • If a candidate does not have a SECRET Security Clearance, the ability to obtain one is required and will be considered during the process
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Physical requirements for the job include the ability to support within a office environment regularly and a lab/testing environment as needed
