Quality/Safety Technician

Columbia Forest Products, North America's largest manufacturer of hardwood plywood and hardwood veneer products, is seeking a Safety/Quality Technician to work in our Craigsville, West Virginia facility.

Duties/Responsibilities: Safety

  • Provide support through Core Values.
  • Responsible for DART rate at or below target.
  • Responsible for BST index rate.
  • Responsible for REACH card process
  • Assist with developing and maintaining safety processes.
  • Assist with annual training for compliance and behavior-based safety.
  • Assist and serve as backup trainer for new hire orientation.
  • Input data into Links, RCI, and Adaptive.
  • Assist both BBS and Compliance Team.
  • Participate in monthly meetings with BBS and Compliance Team.
  • Conduct coached observations.
  • Help create Standard Work, 5s and OWS.
  • Assist with incident investigations.
  • Assists with environmental duties.
  • Audit production processes to find gaps in safety.
  • Attend DMS walks.
    Duties/Responsibilities: Quality
    • Help maintain the Document Control process.
    • Assist with updating and maintaining the Control plans.
    • Enter glue mixer data into Teams.
    • Enter regrade and panel thickness data into SQCPack and One Drive.
    • Enter quality gate data into LINKS.
    • Enter greenend recovery into Teams.
    • Clean and calibrate the ARGOS grading system.
    • Maintain a supply of various gages and tools.
    • Perform annual chicken wire test and 3-cycle soak test.
    • Participate in regrade audits.
    • Conduct sander and veneer grader training.
    • Complete quality planning checklists for new products.
    • Update DMS boards weekly.
    Required Skills/Abilities:
    • Ability to work alone as well as with others.
    • Strong problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
    • Must be a self-starter and/or self-motivated.
    • Computer proficiency in Links, e-mail, excel, word, etc.
    Safety Concerns:
    • Proper PPE must always be worn.
    • This job requires regular work with lightweight materials and occasional work with average weight materials. The individual must concentrate mental and visual attention while closely planning and laying out complete work.
    Quality Concerns:

    Continuously improve to help get the plant target reject percentages while striving to lower the amount of rejects. Understand quality targets for all areas. Provide feedback for processes through quality gates, andon pulls and customer claims.

    Education and Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Prior related experience is preferred.
    • Experience in all departments is preferred.
