Job Summary
Develop and manage all aspects of the deployment, ongoing operations, and logistical coordination of the Breakthrough Engineering and Advanced Treatment of Cancer (BEAT Cancer) Initiative, within the strategic goals and themes of the CCIL. Closely work with CCIL members and leaders, clinician scientists at our clinical partner, and CCIL administration to realize the goals of the initiative and to improve lives of cancer patients.
BEAT Cancer Initiative Leadership:
  • Develop, facilitate, and provide ongoing oversight and direction of all operational aspects of the BEAT Cancer Initiative, from its inception. This includes system design and implementation of all operational aspects of the BEAT Cancer Research Initiative program, and subsequent oversight and accountability for all logistical, financial, compliance, and reporting aspects of this program.
  • Provide leadership and operational/logistical support for the BEAT Cancer Scientific Committee, working closely with the Scientific Coordinator, the Cancer Center Directors, and CCIL administration.
  • Oversee and manage the BEAT Cancer Initiative processes for research project funding. This includes generation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), proposal submission/receipt, proposal review processes and notification, monitoring of project progress, post-award processes, and research activity supervision.
  • Maintain a service orientation, identify the needs and quality expectations of all "stakeholders" and develop mechanisms to meet them.
Liaison Activities:
  • Coordinate with CCIL Administrative Core Team to ensure all operations of this initiative are seamlessly integrated with CCIL priorities and operations.
  • Provide direction, communication, reporting, and guidance to BEAT Cancer Research Initiative investigators to facilitate logistical and financial aspects of funded research projects.
  • Proactively reach out to target audiences at UIUC and our clinical partner institution to promote the Initiative and solicit research proposals, in order to build strong interdisciplinary research teams with a focus on developing novel research proposals.
  • Facilitate the submission of grant proposals to external agencies that specifically involve collaborations amongst BEAT Cancer participants.
  • Coordinate with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement (OVCIA) regarding the financial logistics, stewardship, and compliance aspects of this philanthropically supported initiative.
Analysis and Reporting:
  • Provide support and operational analysis to administration and scientific/clinical leadership at the CCIL and our clinical partner, and BEAT Cancer Research Initiative Scientific Committee members, regarding awarded scientific projects, financial and compliance issues, and program logistics.
  • Maintain ongoing oversight and analysis to ensure that the Initiative continues to support the long-term goals and strategic objectives of the CCIL and specifically of the BEAT Cancer Research Initiative, with specific focus on enhancing cancer research excellence with translational/clinical research collaboration.
    • This includes the development and continued production of appropriate metrics and analytical reporting to the leadership and participants of this research effort.
    • Development, maintenance, and reporting leadership of metrics for initiative success including proposal data, collaboration information, future directions, project productivity, and Return on Investment.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in relevant scientific or administrative field. Four years of related experience in research development and/or research program management. Demonstrated experience engaging with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to advance collaborative clinical partnerships and research.

Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree related to cancer research, engineering, or clinical studies. Three years of experience in higher education management. Two years of experience in cancer research program operations. Two years of experience with clinical trial administration.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Understanding of collaborative research models and ability to implement shared vision for development and promotion of interdisciplinary cancer research. Excellent interpersonal skills in interacting with faculty, clinicians, and administrative personnel, as well as both written and oral communication skills, including professional-level writing.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. Salary is commensurate with experience.
