Basic Function

We are currently seeking to fill a Production Engineer opening at our High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) manufacturing facility located near Victoria, TX.
The Process/Production Engineer will monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize operating units to drive process and product improvements. During a typical day the engineer will apply technical knowledge to detect causes of deviations in quality, capacity, yield, and energy consumption. The individual will identify, recommend and implement strategic projects to improve unit performance. The production engineer will also collaborate with unit specialists, supervisors, operators, and other engineers to support process design and implementation of capital projects.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Identify, recommend, document and implement initiatives to improve unit performance, with the goal to increase production, quality, or lower variable costs
  • Strong team player who works with Operations and other technical groups onsite, and within LYB, to address daily production constraints and achieve results
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and optimize operating units. Maintain transition instructions
  • Develops and communicates unit performance and improvement strategies to stakeholders
  • Determine causes of deviations in quality, capacity, yield, energy consumption, and track variable cost improvements
  • Generate monthly reliability, quality, production, energy consumption reports and support development of PTAI benchmarking data
  • Design and lead Asset Team plant tests (EOD) to improve product value and/or quality and reduce costs
  • Provides engineering calculations to quantify environmental/process safety/reliability events due to loss of containment
  • Support the site PHA process including facilitation of PHA(s), Management of Change (MOC) and Human Reliability Task Assessment (HRTAs). Provide support in addressing recommendations
  • Provide process information support for relief device calculations. Manage the Safety System Disablement (SSD) and Critical Administrative Control (CAC) procedures, including generating monthly process safety KPIs
  • Provide process design support for capital projects, with long term strategic objectives to ensure alignment with company goals
  • Maintain a strong safety and environmental compliance focus

Min. Qualifications

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering is required
  • 0 - 4 years of experience in refining, petrochemical, or chemical environment preferred
  • Knowledge of polymer processes is a plus
  • Knowledgeable in chemical and process engineering aspects
  • Ability to apply engineering concepts to solve performance problems and good troubleshooting skills
  • Knowledgeable in the PSM regulations and relevant company OE standards/guidelines
  • Knowledgeable in the development of process design packages, project scopes and related economics
  • Good troubleshooting skills and techniques
  • Demonstrated capability in Microsoft Office Suite
