Position Overview

MEPPI's Electrical Distribution Division (EDD) is looking for a Power Electronics Section Manager to direct the activities of the distribution power electronics engineering and product development section for Volt/Var Control (VVC) Solutions within the Division.
Essential Functions

  • Direct activities for Distribution Power Electronics products including all essential engineering and distribution system analysis aspects from initial planning stages through study, design, test and commissioning.
  • Lead the VVC Solutions Engineering staff according to Company policies and procedures to effectively achieve Company and department objectives. Develop employees by training, cross training and providing continuing education opportunities. Conduct annual performance reviews and provide input for salary decisions to the Engineering and Development Manager.
  • Develop VVC Solutions future product development program plans and prepare staff level documentation in coordination with the Engineering and Development Manager.
  • Manage and asses section budget performance against plan.
  • Oversee Distribution Power Electronics product development projects and mentor project leads to ensure schedules and cost targets are met.
  • Direct activities for the development and testing of power electronic products, such as converters and inverters, using medium to high power switching components (>500kW and up) and associated protection circuitry.
  • Support sales and marketing with review of bids, pricing and customer technical specifications.
  • Represent and lead involvement of EDD in industry-related organizations such as IEEE, PES, CIGRE, NEMA and other such groups.
  • Independently prepare and lead technical papers and articles for publication in professional society journals and trade magazines; and for presentation at professional society meetings, industry conferences and exhibitions.
  • Support internal and external sales personnel in the interpretation and application of customer specifications.
  • Support Quality Assurance and Service departments in the evaluation and resolution of customer and vendor quality issues.
  • Establish and maintain effective communications with MELCO as needed.
  • Further the goals and positive, professional image of the Company by conducting business with other MEPPI departments, visitors, and callers in a timely and cooperative manner.
  • Know MEPPI�s Quality, Safety and Environmental Policies. Be able to fully discuss the importance of these policies and how they impact work.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor�s Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum 7 years of experience with the design of converters, inverters, FACTS devices and motor drives at low and medium voltage levels, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of electric power systems and equipment operation and control.
  • Advanced knowledge of circuit and system analysis using computer simulation tools (MatLAB, MathCAD, Simulink, PSpice, and others).
  • Advanced interpersonal, communication and presentation skills required to communicate and maintain positive relationships with customers, employees and suppliers.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in/foster a team environment and to work on multiple project simultaneously.
  • Advanced computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office products.
