Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Plans stocking levels and replenishment times and quantities on make-to-stock products to support forecasted sales in all company locations. Develops and maintains statistical forecasts based on historical sales and other inputs, to support sales, as well as inventory turns targets. Responsibilities also include managing inventory items, controlling day-to-day inventory operations, and implementing inventory control protocols. Junior Planners will receive training in all functions and should be able to take on increasing responsibilities as training is completed. Ongoing support will be provided at this level.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in parameter maintenance as directed - as part of training in systems, planning strategy, and overall business goals. Then, analyze data to create and maintain stocking levels, where appropriate, in all company distribution locations for assigned product families.
  • Review Sales history vs. system forecasts for assigned product families. Evaluate, adjust and approve forecasts monthly - initially under supervision. Provide best forecast for each facility to drive proper inventory levels.
  • Collect data to create and maintain planning reports and all associated planning logic in the ERP system for assigned product families.
  • Ensure adequate materials are available to meet the requirements for each plant, based on the master production schedule and calculated by the MRP system, while supporting inventory and turns goals.
  • Primary contact for internal customers for product availability, new products, end of life (phase in/out), economic order and manufacturing quantities, etc. Work with Customer Service, Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Purchasing, etc.
  • Participate in daily Scoreboard/Accountability meetings, as well as cross-functional planning meetings as required.
  • Understand and maintain departmental metrics for Slow Moving/Excess Inventory, On Time, Inventory Turns, Late Lines, and Forecast Accuracy.
  • Analyze excess inventory against planned production to determine if transfer of inventory is preferable to production/purchase using tools provided. Take appropriate action. Process transfer workbenches as needed.
  • Work with logistics and distribution personnel to ensure that replenishment activities minimize freight costs and inventory levels do not exceed space available at any facility.
  • Assist in other activities as directed, including: capacity studies, system optimization and maintenance, metric development and maintenance, and packaging standardization.
  • Maintain professional, service-oriented behavior at all times.


QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty as trained. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • BS/BA in Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with spreadsheet and database technologies. Advanced Excel and Access skills are a plus
  • Knowledge of the principles of inventory control and operations management preferred.
  • An understanding of purchasing, scheduling, and MRP techniques preferred.
  • Ability to think on a conceptual level.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information, both orally and in writing, and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, and ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, as simulated data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Lean/Six Sigma background
  • Must be well versed in Microsoft Excel and Access and database technologies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Low physical effort required to sit, stand at files, bend, stoop, lift, and walk.
  • Maximum unassisted lift 35 lbs, average lift, less than 10 lbs.
  • Requires ability to use a keyboard, monitor and calculator.
  • Requires the ability to communicate verbally, both in person and on the telephone.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Inside average office environment.
  • Average office noise levels.
  • Personal protective equipment maybe required if working at or visiting a manufacturing or distribution facility.
  • Ambient temperature between 68? and 76?
