Job Summary

The Photographer tells the story of the college through captivating images that showcase GGC and the college community. The Photographer is a member of the Public Relations unit of the Communications Division reports to the Public Relations Director. The Photographer is an integral part of the Communications team and supports its marketing, recruitment and media relations efforts.

Working in a team environment, this individual will adhere to deadlines and consult with campus clients to estimate time for a project and produce high-quality photos for print and web. Post- photo responsibilities include appropriately tagging, storing and maintaining photos in the college's digital asset management system.

Evening and weekend work is expected, as well as local and occasional out-of-town travel.

Responsibilities
  • Captures and produces and catalogues creative, high-quality photos in a variety of settings and subject areas for College communication needs, including news, editorial and marketing. This role has a keen eye for composition, outstanding technical skills, and is able to make quick decisions.
  • Maintain the digital asset management (DAM) system, appropriately and timely naming, tagging classifying and editing files, while removing files no longer needed. Ensure the DAM system adheres to brand and organizational standards, intuitive tagging, search functionality and ease of access.
  • Create and maintain photo schedules on Outlook calendar in cooperation with supervisor and the Project Manager.
  • Communicate and collaborate closely with colleagues to meet communications and marketing goals.
  • Monitor trends in photography to ensure GGC's communications innovative and relevant.
  • Coordinate the recruitment and oversight of freelance photographers, as needed.
  • Contributes to the success of the communications division by performing other essential duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree
  • Five or more years of photographic experience required, preferably in a news, commercial, editorial or higher education setting. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid driver's license and federal drone license required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in photography or video production preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience as a photojournalist preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Proficient with Adobe Photoshop and other photo editing software.
  • Excellent technical and artistic skills.
  • Able to work quickly and efficiently under pressure.
  • Demonstrated creative talent and ability to capture effective images and video.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to oversee a photo request calendar and fulfill requests on time.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work as a member of a team. Ability to work within tight deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge and thorough understanding of digital asset management systems.
  • Ability to edit, file, archive, color-correct and process raw digital files. Extensive knowledge of photographic and video camera systems, studio and location lighting, drone operation and equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to professionally interact with students, faculty and other staff members to accomplish goals. Strong attention to details.
  • Ability to update skills on a continual basis. Knowledge of the media and printing industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of copyright laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the internet and its imagery usage preferred. Knowledge of issues in higher education preferred.
