Penn Engineering Center for Precision Engineering for Health (CPE4H) Positions

Location:
Philadelphia, PA
Open Date:
Nov 16, 2021
Description:

The School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for multiple, open-rank, tenure-line faculty positions from individuals with exceptional promise for, or proven record of research achievement in using the tools of engineering to solve problems in health care. The Center for Precision Engineering for Health (CPE4H) will seek individuals that can thrive in engineering departments and connect with major open clinical questions in the development of novel biomaterials and tissues, delivery and diagnostic systems, and the development of biocompatible functional assemblies that can operate at the nanometer, micron, or tissue-level length scales.

The CPE4H spans all engineering disciplines. We seek individuals who can harness and tailor novel approaches from any of the underlying core disciplines of engineering - chemical & biomolecular engineering, bioengineering, mechanical engineering, electrical and systems engineering, and materials science and engineering - to solve current problems in health care.

Researchers working in all areas of engineering are encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in candidates who will enhance our research strengths in the following areas:

Design and delivery of therapeutics - lipid, protein, or nucleotide formulations for the effective delivery of vaccines, pharmaceuticals, and antibiotics.

Biomimicry - assemblies made of designer components that mimic biology on the nano- or micron-scale, such as synthetic cells (protocells) or elicit the architecture and regeneration of functional multicellular tissues (tissue regeneration).

MEMS technology for biological function - assembly of bioactive materials with precision for packaging therapeutics or organizing cell assemblies with mechanical and electrical function for mechanobiology or neuroscience

Novel biodevices and machines - modeling, design and assembly of responsive bio-assemblies that can be actuated by light or force (mechanotransduction).

This cluster search will be administered at the school level, with search committee representation from all departments. Prospective candidates should indicate their preferred department and tailor their application accordingly.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in engineering or a related discipline. Ideal candidates would have a strong record of research accomplishments in one or more of the areas described above, a vision for future intellectual leadership, and a demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching and service. We welcome diverse candidates who will reflect the makeup of our society, enrich our intellectual community, and enhance the education, training and mentorship of our students.

Application Instructions:

Applications must be submitted online through Interfolio, and should include a cover letter, Curriculum Vitae, teaching statement (limit of 2 pages), research statement (limit of 4 pages, with an abstract of up to 300 words), diversity statement, names and contact information of 3 references, and up to 3 representative publications. The deadline for applications is January 1, 2022. Review of applications will begin immediately, so we encourage early submission

Equal Employment Opportunity Statement:
