Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Orders laboratory supplies, data base generation and entry, cleans glassware, prepares of laboratory solutions and media, and overall general lab organization.
  • Assists in maintaining cell culture lines and reagents, as well as preparation of bacterial and plasmid stocks as needed.
  • Responsible for coordinating supplies and materials for animal care and must be willing to be trained in the responsible care of animals.
  • Orders and stocking supplies.
  • Prepares media, plates and autoclaving labware.
  • Databases entry and backup of computer files and databases.
  • Lab organization.
  • Sends out packages as necessary.
  • Maintenances of tissue culture lines.
  • Oversees the maintenance of the tissue culture room.
  • Maintenance of frozen cell culture lines.
  • Maintenance of bacterial and plasmid stocks.
  • Coordinates with animal care staff for prompt ordering/delivery of materials.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.
Preferred
  • Appropriate coursework in Biology and Chemistry with labs on the path to a BS in a scientific discipline
SKILLS

Required
  • A background in science is required, and additional training will be provided
  • Highly responsible, possess excellent attention to detail
  • Have good organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrates basic chemistry skills needed for preparation of laboratory solutions (understanding of molarity, concentration, dilutions and pH)
  • Opportunities to become involved in research will be available to highly motivated candidates who demonstrate commitment to learning and technical proficiency
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of laboratory testing
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment operation (balances, pH meters, centrifuge)
  • Ability to interpret written instructions related to laboratory procedures and experiments
  • Knowledge and ability to perform standard laboratory mathematical calculations
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to multitask and efficiently complete repetitive tasks
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Work with limited supervision
  • Must be extremely responsible in scheduling and providing laboratory support

Additional Information

This is a year-round part-time position.

Work Hours

Hours are flexible; however, a set schedule is preferred. Some occasional weekend hours may be required.
