Ricks Center for Gifted Children at the University of Denver is a Preschool to Grade 8 school serving the needs of gifted children since 1984. Ricks Center offers a progressive model of education focused on developing the intellectual, social, emotional, creative and physical needs of the gifted child. Position Summary

We seek a school counselor to provide group and individual student support in social-emotional development for students who are identified as gifted and twice-exceptional. The school counselor will work closely in collaboration with the school psychologist to support the school in coordination of student services.

This is a part-time, non-benefited position, not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

  • Work with classrooms, small groups, and individual students on social skills, self-regulation, problem solving, mental health and wellbeing.
  • Support students' social and emotional development through the implementation of Tier 1 classroom interventions or targeted, short-term Tier 2 interventions.
  • Consult with teachers and parents regarding classroom accommodations and modifications to meet the social and emotional needs of students.
  • Meet regularly with the Student Support Team to address students' social-emotional needs, as well as individual classroom and school needs.
  • Attend meetings with teachers or parents.
  • Collect data (through surveys or progress-monitoring tools) for Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in School Counseling
  • CDE Special Services Provider License - School Counseling
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience in school settings
  • Previous experience with gifted and twice-exceptional populations of students
  • Previous experience in independent/private school setting
Work Schedule

Part time, approximately 10-15 hours per week for the 2022-2023 school year.

Hourly Range

The hourly range for this position is $50.00-75.00.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
