SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Sr. DBA, develops and implements database backup and recovery strategies to prevent failures and ensure effective recovery of data as well as spear-head Disaster Recovery Planning, execution and testing. Reviews respective database log files and alerts as part of pro-active security measures, summarizing findings to the Sr. DBA and SIS Management, noting issues, resolutions and recommended mitigation steps. Maintains and develops Linux/Unix shell scripts to support the automated and SFTP import and export processes as well as various crontab jobs on University servers. Maintains security, user accounts and user groups for Oracle databases and other University SIS-related systems per established University standards. Assist TAMUT/TAMUC staff with trouble-shooting errors associated with the development and promotion of queries and reports against the SIS database. Supports the Banner Administrator in maintaining the Ellucian Banner ERP, its associated DEV, QA and production environments, TCC compatible scripts and code. Using UC4/Automic job automation tool, automates jobs/process and promotes them from QA to Production after TAMUC user testing. Using UC4/Automic management tools, regularly identify and correct failed jobs/processes, create, monitor and close tickets with Ellucian (Vendor) as needed. Cross trains with the Banner Admin to Support Web, Form and Report application services for Banner INB and self-service modules as well various applications associated with the SIS database (Degreeworks, WebFOCUS, TargetX, Apply Texas, etc.). Under the supervision of the Sr. DBA, clones and refreshes test/development databases to support IT personnel in testing new software changes and performance.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

System Administration

  • OS Installation and OS configuration support for OCI servers that support TAMUT's SIS
  • Operating System and library updates for DEV, TEST and PROD OCI servers that support TAMUT's SIS
  • Backup Monitoring for OCI Servers that support TAMUT's SIS
  • OS User access management to the OCI servers that support TAMUT's SIS
  • Incident and Service support for Custom Apps such as Droplist and Schedule of Classes that run on TAMUC Servers
  • SFTP support for file transfers to and from TAMUT's OCI Servers.
  • "SSL" Certificate renewal support for OCI Servers
  • OCI Server and storage infrastructure monitoring
  • External vulnerability scan support

Network Administration

  • Consulting, architecting, and implementation for communication services within TAMUT's OCI Infrastructure
  • Firmware and OS updates to firewall and other network services within TAMUT's OCI Infrastructure that are not managed by Oracle.
  • "SSL" Certificate renewal support for OCI Network Infrastructure
  • OCI Network infrastructure monitoring
  • External vulnerability scan support

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: The candidate must have three (3) years of related experience in data management either through professional work experience or in combination with a related internship. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of advanced analysis, troubleshooting, and problem solving, client relations skills, requirement assessment and analysis, project management methodology, context, and interrelationships, and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL).
  • Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal, and written communication skills.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) years of experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Five (5) years related work experience preferred.
  • Oracle Database certification preferred.
  • Experience in or training/certification related to the OCI environment (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) is preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle 18c/19c is preferred.
  • JSON Programming (Data Exchange Formatting) experience preferred
