Team Overview: Commercial Acceleration, Enterprise Shareholder Value

Commercial Acceleration, a business development unit within Oliver Wyman, enhances our firm's ability to sell and deliver large-scale, transformational programs that create substantial shareholder value. A critical component of the Commercial Acceleration unit is the Oliver Wyman Automated Virtual Environment (OWAVE) - an environment of interconnected, high-resolution monitors that brings client opportunities to life through more dynamic, digital storytelling techniques. OWAVE is a 15' x 22' visual display system intended to leverage a variety of mediums including video, audio, infographics, and advanced analytical software to give organizations a view of their business in ways they have never seen before (see Exhibit 1).

We are looking for a Communications Strategist who can work with our consulting team to translate business data, analytics, research, and other information into compelling storyboards for engaging content that leverages the innovative OWAVE platform. The Communications Strategist will oversee a group of 2-4 Graphic Designers to produce the developed content of cohesive stories that effectively communicate key messages and stir emotions.

Role

The Communications Strategist will have the following responsibilities:

  • Work with consulting teams to identify key messages/narratives to convey in the OWAVE
  • Review data, charts, and other information to ensure that all story inputs are adequately understood
  • Develop storyboards and identify the best techniques and communication mediums to effectively engage and influence the audience
  • Oversee Graphic Designers to produce the digital content for display on OWAVE to create cohesive, compelling messaging
  • Stay apprised of the latest visual storytelling techniques and technologies and incorporate into the OWAVE platform

Required Skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • An aptitude for visual storytelling, with the ability to turn complex ideas into compelling narratives / stories
  • Ability to understand business concepts and interpret data/charts and translate them into innovative and compelling stories
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to create content that resonates with key audiences
  • A creative eye for combining visuals, video, text, and graphic design into engaging content
  • Solid understanding of digital technology and editing software packages and their capabilities
  • High attention to detail in both written and visual contexts
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and project management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks/responsibilities
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment under changing conditions

Desired Experience
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience developing compelling stories
  • Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, or related field a plus

Compensation
  • This role is structured as a 1099 Independent Contractor for up to 40 hours per week
  • The initial commitment period is for 6 months, with the possibility to transition to temp or full-time employee over time
  • Starting rate of $60 / hour
