Summary of Duties:

Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) is seeking qualified candidates for an Occupational Safety and Health Professional 1 (OSHP1) entry level position. You will work under direct supervision and assist higher level positions in assignments related to occupational safety and health or industrial hygiene. Operating within WSU EH&S, you are responsible for aiding key functions within the WSU Occupational Health Services, particularly in Capital Services and the oversight of Universal Waste within the Environmental Services group. You will collect industrial hygiene samples, interprets results, prepares reports, and assist with communicating findings related to affected employees' exposure as part of WSU Asbestos and Lead Management programs. You will administer routine Universal Wastes such as lights and batteries originating from WSU facilities. You will assist in the research, review and analysis of data, industry trends and state of the art information on occupational health and environmental services issues.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university involving major study in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or closely related field OR four years of technician, or para-professional paid experience in one or more of the following industries: government, military, public health or related safety and health field.

  • Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license.

  • Ability to obtain WA Labor and Industries Asbestos Worker certification, AHERA Building Inspector Certificate, and NIOSH 582 PCM Certificate within 6-months of hire.

  • Must have ability to wear a full-face air purifying respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus.

Monthly Salary:

Range 46 | $3,883 to $5,214 (Step A - M) | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
