Position Summary

The GW Medical Faculty Associates' Occupational Health Nurse Manager is responsible for the overall operations, and implementation and development of policies, procedures, and processes of occupational health for internal health professionals and employer community-based clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Manages the responsibilities of a team of occupational health nurses and clerical staff.
  • Develops policies, procedures, and processes for occupational health services for medical professionals.
  • Develop and maintain an efficient occupational health nursing process appropriate to the needs of the facility with respect to size and nature of work activities.
  • Develop organization-wide trainings for management and staff on Bloodborne Pathogen exposures, workers' compensation injury reduction, and other health and safety education.
  • Provide compassionate, quality care to team members.
  • Utilize cost containment measures in all department activities.
  • Provide observation, care, and counsel of team members with occupational illness or injuries including nursing assessment, first aid, follow-up care, rehabilitation service, and case management.
  • Manage all workers' compensation management including, compliance with requirement of state workers' compensation regulations, reporting all cases that require outside medical care to third part administrator (TPA), imitation of internal case management on workers' compensation claims.
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations including OSHA, Worker's Compensation, etc.
  • Adhere to health management protocols as directed.
  • Schedule and or perform health assessments and evaluation of team members for return-to-work, fitness for duty, and medical surveillance in accordance with Pilgrim's health management, and safety protocols and the authorized physicians written directives.
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with management and employees to establish confidence and cooperation in health care provided.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with departmental staff, supervisory staff, local healthcare providers, and third part administrator (TPA).
  • Direct the review of workplace accommodations, ensuring that they are processed timely and followed up on appropropriately.
  • Assist managers and supervisors in identifying appropriate alternate or transitional duty job tasks, which meet team members' abilities and medical restrictions.
  • Frequently observe team members on alternate or transitional duty at their work stations while doing their restricted job tasks.
  • Conduct all functions within scope of quality care and utilization of cost containment measure.
  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping according to OSHA regulations and organizations policies.

Qualifications

Education

Required -

  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the District of Columbia; (or current license in other jurisdiction with evidence of application for licensure as required by the District of Columbia Board of Nursing).
    • Current Health care BLS certification

Preferred -

  • American Board for Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. certification ("COHN") or
  • Completion of a certificate program in Occupational health nursing for academic credit

Experience

  • At least 5 (five) years of clinical nursing experience with at least 2 (two) years demonstrated supervisory experience in an ambulatory, multidisciplinary setting; preferably an occupational health clinic.
