Neuroimaging Data Analyst

The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neurology is seeking a 100% Neuroimaging Data Analyst to support research activities in the ( laboratory to help analyze, design, implement, and support neuroimaging datasets in the Cognitive Neuroscience Lesion Registry. Our research program aims to understand brain function and anatomy through studies of individuals with brain lesions. This is a specified term position.


Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Follow the overall research protocol and develop data analysis scripts that incorporate existing scripts for neuroimaging analyses
  • Assist Principal Investigator (PI) in developing novel tools for neuroimaging data analyses.
  • Follow protocols to manage neuroimaging and behavioral data storage.
  • Automate MRI data processing using Python and shell scripting to a high degree of efficiency.
  • Write scripts in BASH and Unix operation systems

About the Division of Pediatric Neurology:

The Division of Child Neurology is committed to providing excellent clinical care, educating trainees at all levels, and advancing knowledge through biomedical research. All child neurology faculty members are board certified in neurology with special qualifications in child neurology. Child neurology faculty members work together with pediatric neurology nurse practitioners and specialized nursing staff to deliver outstanding care in all aspects of child neurology. Faculty and staff work closely with other clinicians throughout the UI Healthcare system offer our patients comprehensive care. The division has particular clinical expertise in epilepsy, neurogenetics and neuromuscular disorders. As part of the Iowa Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, the division provides a full range of treatment and evaluation including ketogenic diet, vagal nerve stimulator, and surgical evaluation. The neuromuscular program provides multidisciplinary care to individuals with diseases of the muscles or nerves. Child neurology clinics are held in the University of Iowa Children's Hospital Pediatric Specialty Clinic and in outreach clinics across the state of Iowa.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in cognitive science, neuroscience, computer science, psychology, engineering, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Level of proficiency in programming necessary to accomplish scientific computing tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to use shared code repositories with version control.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to clearly document code.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in cognitive psychology, cognitive science, neuroimaging, human cognitive neuroscience, or bioinformatics, such as through prior coursework, relevant research experience, work experience, in related fields, and/or interest in pursuing advanced research or graduate training in psychology, neuroimaging, computational sciences, or bioengineering.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment

Desired Qualifications
  • At least one year of relevant research experience, preferably in cognitive psychology, neuroimaging, neuroscience, or other behavioral/quantitative disciplines.
  • Experience with neuroimaging data analyses, including MRI and/or EEG.
  • Experience with high-performance computational cluster.
  • Proficiency with Unix (can be learned on the job if candidate does not possess this skill).
  • Experience in teaching computer programming
