Job Location: onsite in Wilsonville, OR min 3 days per week

Job Description
  • The organization is undertaking a significant network security project that requires resources from across the network infrastructure and security teams to priorities delivering the objectives of this project over the coming one to three years.
  • To enable the focus required on this priority project, the network infrastructure team is looking to augment its existing resources and expertise with intermediate to senior level contract network engineers to fulfil various roles supporting existing network services and engage on the network security project as needs arise.
  • The network contract position in Wilsonville will have a primary role of supporting LAN services in the Wilsonville datacenter. This datacenter, plus an associated colo in Hillsboro, service over 300 cabinets hosting software development servers and storage.
  • The networking infrastructure serving the datacenter and colo is based on the HP Comware platform. Network reliability and performance is essential and LAN services need to be provisioned quickly and to the highest standard to ensure the needs of our software development business are met.
  • The successful applicant will be required to be onsite in Wilsonville for a minimum of three days per week and may occasionally be required to attend the colo facility in Hillsboro.
  • Working under the direction of a senior network engineer/architect the position will be required to work with IT service verticals to determine the network needs for new incoming equipment to the datacenter/colo, including ESX, NetApp storage, blade enclosures and grid computing systems and then ensure needs are met by coordinating the installation of network hardware where necessary and completing network configurations to allow service deployments.
  • In line with general network operations for the datacenter, the role includes completing firmware upgrades, planning other maintenance activities, proactive monitoring and investigating level three service incidents escalated via an internal incident management system.
  • The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate a track record managing and operating network services in a complex datacenter type environment and ideally should have previous experience of HP Comware switches.
  • More generally, contract network resources may be required to engage on typical network infrastructure projects and operational support activities. These activities include deployment of LAN and WAN services for M&A projects and office relocations; datacenter switch deployments; managing and resolving service outages; responding to and resolving level 3 incidents for network access and performance issues for our global internal customer base.
  • Network contractors will be working within a team of locally and globally situated network engineers. Depending on your level of experience you may be involved in projects that will require you to work with other stakeholders in IT and software development departments to analyze network requirements and planning subsequent network service implementations in order to meet specific project objectives. Whilst you will be part of a global team, you should be able to operate under minimal supervision, with latitude for decision making and cross-team communication.
Technical Knowledge and Experience
  • Datacenter Specific
    • Experience with Cisco and HPE Comware switching
    • Experience with modern campus and data center architectures
    • Network analysis and trouble-shooting skills (Wireshark)
    • Network monitoring technologies such as SFlow, NetFlow, etc.
    • Python scripting and automation
Generally:
  • Experience with HP Comware and Cisco IOS / NX-OS, spine/leaf data center networks utilizing VXLAN/MP-BGP, vendor support experience, and deployment of Cisco LAN Catalyst and Nexus, WAN ISR and ASR products.
  • Routing and Performance Experience - Implementation and Troubleshooting of BGP, OSPF and QoS/CoS Policies. Troubleshooting - Complex LAN and WAN routing, spanning tree and general network health problems. Experience in dealing with Service Providers for overseeing Layer 1, 2, 3 issues.
  • Knowledge of switching - to CCNP level preferred.
  • Customer service skills - Experience in working with an Enterprise Ticketing system such as ServiceNow, managing incident SLA's and handling customer communications in a polite and detailed manner either via the ticketing system, chat tool or by phone.
  • Cisco Certifications - CCNP or equivalent Preferred
