Position Overview

Multi-Craft Maintenance Technicians play a critical role in improving the reliability of our electro-mechanical equipment. Working in conjunction with operations and other maintenance employees, assisting in troubleshooting systems, coordinating project work and maintaining equipment functionality. Technicians report to the Maintenance Leader. Must be willing to work rotating shifts.

Responsibilities & Qualifications


Candidates for this position must have demonstrated that they:

  • Completed High School or GED. Associates Degree in a technical field preferred
  • Have a minimum 3 years of mechanical experience in industry
  • Are able to interpret drawings, including mechanical and fabrication drawings, fluid system.
  • Have a working knowledge of basic hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Have a working knowledge of combustion control systems - preferred
  • Have good working knowledge of PLC's and ladder logic
  • Have a working knowledge of basic hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Can analyze production processor part problems and work to devise and implement solutions and improvements
  • Are able to perform basic arc welding
  • Able to perform basic rigging/lifting
  • Have the ability to trouble shoot and repair low voltage circuits and equipment along with AC and DC motor drives
  • Are able to build and install electrical panels and install conduit and wiring up to 600V with a good working knowledge of the National Electrical Code - preferred
  • Are able to use volt/ohm/milliamp meter and disconnect/reconnect components up to 480V
  • Ability to work in a team environment toward accomplishment of objectives
  • Ability to use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or other business system tools
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills

Additional Considerations

Project experience is desirable, including development of Scopes of Work, creation of bid packages, tracking/reporting project status, coordination of contractor activities, monitoring installations and verifying functionality.

Functional Capacity Requirements

This is a list of physical requirements, related to a person's ability to handle certain physical, mental, emotional demands.
  • Working in heat >80° and cold < 60°
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Climbing stairs and ladders
  • Bending, twisting, kneeling, sometimes in close quarters
  • Working odd, irregular hours, including nights and weekends

Primary Responsibilities

The following list includes primary responsibilities and is not meant to be all-inclusive.
  • Complete work in a safe, timely, professional manner
  • Analyze production process or part problems and work to devise and implement solutions and improvements
  • Complete PMs as assigned
  • Troubleshoot and improve electro-mechanical systems
  • Oversee projects from scope of work through implementation
  • Document activities in the CMMS and/or other business system tools
  • Mentor other craftspeople
  • Monitor and maintain instrumentation and control devices
  • Plan work orders for electrical/electronic projects, including materials, drawings, work directions, bill of materials, vendor documents/materials, crafts needed and estimates of labor and raw materials - preferred
  • Familiarization with all necessary test equipment and correct troubleshooting procedures to assist or initiate action in any equipment related problem
  • Participate in and/or lead the start-up and testing of new electrical/electronic equipment, instrumentation and control devices
  • Plans and coordinates electrical/electronic activities during planned equipment outages

Novelis' Berea facility is located in Berea Kentucky near Lexington. With 140 employees the recycling facility processes approximately 20 percent of all aluminum cans recycled in the United States each year - more than 750 million pounds.
