Mechanical System Architect at TSI
We are currently seeking a Mechanical System Architect role in our Architecture & Platform team for our measurement products. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing mechanical architecture of various modular Platforms. Your solutions will integrate precision measurement technology, advanced electronics, and IoT connectivity into a wide variety of interesting applications and markets. You will work closely with architects, systems engineering, product management, and senior technical specialists to create cutting edge products. You will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced product managers to help shape a long-term product roadmap. What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with TSI, you will:

  • Design and develop mechanical architecture for Product Platforms to be modular, scalable, cost competitive, and creatingdifferentiated value for the customer
  • Identifyand createplatform reuse opportunities through innovative designs and/or use of commercial off the shelf (COTS) products or solutions, such as pumps, heating and cooling technologies, and optical components
  • Create mechanical architecture and other reusable designs to be compatible with a wide variety of sensing techniques, including optical sensing of micron and nanometer sized aerosols, gas sensing, flow measurement, and others
  • Effectively communicate and articulate solutions and architecture at all levels of the organization, including senior management
  • Create architecture documentation for new technologies developed as, or incorporated into existing platforms
  • Identify optimal interfaces among system components
  • Independently design and develop the mechanical portions of electronic instruments, and integrate solutions with the electrical and software design portions
  • Use industrial design concepts to create or further develop case designs for instruments
  • Design and support injection molded designs, other types molding design (RIM, vacuum forming, etc.), machined parts design, and rapid prototyping techniques
  • Understand design, performance, and cost tradeoffs and make recommendations for optimization
  • Support rapid cycles of design/test/model/experiment/analyze that are complex in nature
  • Design parts in Creo and SolidWorks
  • Support product design by testing sub-systems and products in a lab (functional testing, drop test, vibration test, etc.)

What Do You Need?
Required
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of mechanical system design or mechanical architect responsibilities in highly technical product or platform development
  • 10+ years of product development mechanical engineering experience
  • Injection molded, machined, and sheet metal part design
  • 3D CAD software
  • Experience in writing requirements, conducting product verification, and validation testing for mechanical components
Desired
  • Any certification related to Architecture or Platform design
  • Any certification related to Industrial design
  • Product development experience on a platform from the concept phase through the launch phase with leadership over the mechanical portion
  • Rapid prototyping techniques
  • Experience and knowledge in various sensing technologies, including optics, temperature and humidity sensing, electrochemical sensing of gases, and electrical current and charge measurements
  • Experience in heat transfer modeling and/or design of heating and cooling systems
  • Fluid modeling and/or design of gas or liquid movement systems (e.g. gas and liquid pumps, blowers, choked flow with orifices)
