At the Thermo Fisher Eugene site you will contribute to the continued research and development activities around the world that are unlocking more knowledge and advancing the health and well-being of people everywhere. At this site you manage several work streams and will work with a broad team focused on delivering important products to customers while always driving for new ways to accomplish our work heathier, cleaner, and safer for people and our environment.

What will you do?

As the Manufacturing Operations Manager you are responsible for day-to-day management of the production areas focused on Safety, Quality, and Productivity at the Eugene site. Your success will be measured by the team's ability to deliver on the schedule that will satisfy customer volume commitments. You will lead and develop the Manufacturing team's success by setting targets for performance, leading daily standard work and providing solid developmental leadership to a growing team with a continuous focus on delivering a high level of customer satisfaction. You will be a key member of the leadership team and will enable team members to grow individually and as a team.

  • Ensure safety is a top priority with active measures in place to drive a safe culture.
  • Ensure the manufacturing of quality products through the departmental standards and procedures, and continuous quality, safety, and efficiency improvement efforts.
  • Implement best practices and manage labor needs to improve the labor efficiency.
  • Hands-on leadership to drive the operational efficiencies and process improvements.
  • Participate as a core team or extended team member and work with Technical Operations, PMO and R&D on new product introductions (Design for Manufacturing) and product transfers.
  • Apply continuous improvement (PPI) tools to determine problem root causes (RCCM), implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) Partner with Quality on RCCM for customer complaints.
  • Document and develop standard work/SOPs and provide continuous feedback to team members to assure all are adhering to procedures and striving for continuous improvement and alignment with the objectives.
  • Lead, support, initiatives such including, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizen events. Conducts financial analysis to forecast and assess project impact.
  • Sustain Operations critical metrics and introduce as needed for projects in area of responsibility that motivate change and visibility to the team and leadership. Track, trend, and monitor routinely with active data analysis rigor performed to drive the continuous improvement culture.
  • Mentor team members to achieve results and solve problems by applying the tier management system.
  • Enable team to reach their career aspirations through the creation of effective IDP and mentoring.
  • Report to Operations and Site leadership on barriers to execution and resolve problems by providing practical solutions.
  • Present to customers in audits, give tours, and review processes
  • Conducts site audits for compliance with company global standards.
Education:
  • Minium Education required: Bachelor's degree in a related technical field such as engineering, science or technology
Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience leading a team in a fast-paced, global manufacturing environment.
  • Requires 5-7 years relevant Operations management experience including staff supervision, budget accountability and project management.
  • Background in life science preferred.
  • Creative problem solving, customer service, planning and influence skills required.
  • Experience within ISO 13485 and cGMP environment is a plus.
  • Manufacturing experience with Chemistry and Biology processes a plus
  • Continuous improvement certification (Six Sigma or equal) is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and developing successful teams.
  • Demonstrated success solving sophisticated problems with practical solutions.
  • Authority in analyzing and communicating data to enable decision making.
  • Adequate knowledge of Problem-Solving techniques such as RCCM, DMAIC, 8-D, PPS, A3, etc.
  • Possess a continuous process improvement mentality with the ability to effectively lead and manage change.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a global environment and influence technical employees, peers, and management without jeopardizing relationships.
  • Ability to model Role Model Leadership and reward the same on the team.

  • Excellent communication is required. This includes both written and spoken communications with team members, peers, and senior management.
  • High level of business acumen in business case development
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite.
