Working independently, the International Accounting Manager manages the internal control function; the creation and enforcement of policies; standardizing processes across international regions; promoting adherence to company best practices and to U.S. GAAP. The principal business outcome of this position is to help reduce risk of failing controls and increased accuracy of financial reporting and accounting procedures and report findings and resolutions to organizational leaders. There is considerable interaction with management, the international accounting team in corporate and in countries, in addition to other corporate departments.


  • Create and/or update related accounting policies and perform follow-up review for compliance
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and able to research accounting topics and understand pronouncements
  • Analyze accounting processes in the international regions to determine best practices
  • Create advanced Excel schedules and utilize Hyperion/Essbase to retrieve financial data
  • Recognize financial accounting risks and continuously contribute to the development and enhancement of controls, accounting policies and procedures to mitigate those risks
  • Manage special projects, perform accounting research and analysis of accounting processes, determine most effective method of executing it and rectify any exceptions found
  • Document and communicate results to management as necessary
  • Demonstrate leadership and effective communication of requests, inquiries and directives with the international regions
  • Work with the internal controls department to design controls related to responsibilities and ensure those controls are effectively executed
  • Perform SOX reviews of balance sheet reconciliations for international countries
  • Analyze calculations of accruals and reserves for items such as obsolescence, shrink, defective, asset retirement obligations, straight-line rent, percentage rent, bonus accrual and more
  • Analyze month-end financial reporting for variances to prior year, forecast and budget and follow up on unusual variances to ensure understanding of them
  • Assist with review of journal entries, account reconciliations and supporting documentation for numerous international holding companies
  • Ensure close responsibilities are completed in accordance with month end close deadlines
  • Lead and manage the day to day responsibilities of direct report

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required; Master's degree preferred
  • CPA certification required
  • Previous managerial/supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in multi-location retail environment preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in a public accounting firm and/or a multinational corporation environment, with audit controls, SEC and/or financial reporting responsibilities

  • Proficient attention to detail and data quality control - effective at researching issues and problem solving
  • Proficient ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities in order to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and potentially conflicting priorities
  • Proficient knowledge of Windows-based business computers and Microsoft Office programs; specifically, Advanced Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word. Knowledge of Hyperion Essbase preferred
