Job Summary: Job Summary Job Summary Performs routine facilities work in a variety of areas related to the maintenance and/or repair of buildings to include mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. Maintaining the daily operation of HVAC systems is a critical requirement of this role. This is an essential staff position. The technician will be required to work in emergency situations even when the college is otherwise closed. This person should be prepared to work nights, weekends, and holidays to support the mission of the college and the students of SMC. This is an essential staff position.   • Operates and services building mechanical HVAC equipment. (Boilers and Chillers)
  • Services, repairs, and installs building service fixtures and equipment (for example: light fixtures, water coolers, bathrooms fixtures, locks, doors, hardware).
  • Performs tasks related to plumbing, electrical, and general carpentry.
  • Assists with preventive maintenance programs.
  • Operates common hand and machine tools.
  • Replaces ceiling tiles and grids.
  • Moves, assembles, and repairs office equipment and furniture.
  • Assist in the inspection of fire alarm systems, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers on a regular schedule.
  • Assists in the set up and breakdown of campus events.
  • Responds to calls for emergency service.
  • Participates in required safety training.
  • Assists in other areas of facilities and performs other tasks assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or the Vice President for Facilities.

    • Knowledge of GHS safety requirements for handling toxic or hazardous materials.
    • Must have a good work ethic, positive attitude, professional appearance, and be able to speak and read English.
    • Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the tasks performed and equipment employed.
    • Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
    • Ability to perform basis mathematical calculations.
    • Ability to communicate effectively.
    • Skill in the use of hand tools or equipment.
    • Well-grounded philosophy of honesty, integrity, and respect.

  • Working Conditions: Working Conditions Working Conditions This is an on-call position. Preference will be given to a candidate willing to live within a 15-mile radius of campus. Sustained physical effort may be required for the completion of some maintenance responsibilities. The technician will drive a college vehicle while on campus and during on-call rotation. Work environment may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, disease/pathogens, toxic/caustic chemicals.   • Education and Training: Education and Training Education and Training High school diploma or G.E.D. required. A.A.S. in Industrial Technology (carpentry, HVAC, or electrical) preferred. Valid Driver's License. Pre-employment drug screen and background investigation is required.
