Alliant Energy has an outstanding opportunity for an apprentice or journey level Line Mechanic to serve Ottumwa, IA and support neighboring rural communities! Our crews play a critical role in providing consistent, reliable service to homes and businesses within our territory.

Our crews are made up of experienced leads, journey leveland apprentices, are supported by strong leadership and have a trusted commitment to safety and ethics. We have a dedicated safety team that supports our crews and each employee is provided training and development to succeed, empowering them to grow and advance. You will work with our team to do new construction, maintain existing facilities and respond to outages.

• This vacancywill be filled at an apprentice or journey level.
• This position is posted internal and external
• Hours: Mon-Fri 7:00am - 3:30pm and standby/OT as needed.
• This position has a residency requirement of 35 minutes from headquarters
• This position has emergency response requirements
• Occasional Travel up to 10% of time for training and zone support.
• Training Locations: Washington, Fairfield, Conroy and Marshalltown, IA.
• This position may participate in a Boot Camp and on-the-job training may take place in multiple sites throughout IP&L geographic territory. Travel, overnight lodging and expenses will be handled in accordance with bargaining agreement.

Job Qualifications

• Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License prior to the end of trial period

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Good reading comprehension, mathematics skills.
• Demonstrated ability to do ordinary line construction, operating and maintenance work, line trouble shooting and transformer installation including three-phase and parallel banking.
• Reasonable knowledge of work order procedure and allocation of charges.
• Knowledge of the requirements of the State Electrical Code and company standards for line construction.
• Familiarity with live line maintenance tools and their use.
• Thorough knowledge of the Company Safety Rules and Operating Practices relating to line construction and maintenance.
• Ability to write clearly and concisely, make understandable diagrams, ability to express oneself verbally.
• Sensitivity to public opinion and property owner's rights.
• Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group.

*Note: This job is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug and alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40 and 199), and is subject to drug testing according to said regulations.
