Description:
The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a full-time lecturer (or Teaching Assistant Professor without tenure) in the Japanese language, to begin in the fall of 2024. Appointment to this position will be for a term of one year and will be renewable. A master's degree in Japanese-language pedagogy, second language acquisition, linguistics, or a related field is required for a lecturer by the time of appointment. A doctoral degree is required for a teaching assistant professor.
Qualifications:
Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching Japanese-language courses to non-native speakers at the college level, and familiarity with current language pedagogy and with the use of technology to enhance language learning. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate Japanese language at all levels (12 hours each semester) in various modes of instruction, including in‐person and online classrooms, and in collaboration with faculty in the Japanese Program. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate native or near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English and who may serve as a coordinator for the lower-division Japanese language courses.
