Job Summary:

We are seeking a Lead Data Scientist to be a technical expert and take charge of transforming data into actionable insights within our Rental team of Cat Digital. You will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering innovative analytics solutions to optimize our digital investments and drive the expansion of Rental revenue and customer base.

As the Lead Data Scientist, you will be responsible for leading a team of data scientists, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and guiding the development and implementation of innovative data-driven solutions.

This role requires a strong background in data science, proficiency in Python, Machine Learning, AWS, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to translate technical findings into strategic recommendations.

What You Will Do:

Drive a data-driven product development culture to optimize digital investments, increasing Rental revenue, and expanding the customer base through enhanced dealer operations and improved product utilization.

  • Lead and mentor a team of data scientists, providing guidance and support in project execution and professional development.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging data science to improve processes, optimize operations, and enhance customer experiences.
  • Leading to define requirements and scope of data analyses, communicate findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences through compelling visualizations, presentations, and reports.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover insights, trends, and patterns in large-scale datasets.
  • Design and develop predictive models, algorithms, and analytical frameworks to solve complex business problems and drive strategic decision-making.
  • Evaluate and implement advanced machine learning techniques, such as deep learning, natural language processing, and reinforcement learning, to address business challenges.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, and assess their potential impact on our business.
Skills You Will Have:
  • Leadership, Cross-functional Collaboration and Communication: Lead cross-functional teams in developing and executing the R&U BI/Analytics roadmap. Work closely with departments across the organization to understand their data needs and provide solutions that enhance decision-making processes.
  • Data Analysis and Requirements Gathering: Conduct in-depth analysis of complex business data, providing valuable insights to support strategic initiatives and operational efficiency. Gather and document business requirements for BI & Analytics, defining KPIs and metrics.
  • Analytical Thinking: Extensive knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Machine Learning: Extensive knowledge of principles, technologies and algorithms of machine learning; ability to develop, implement and deliver related systems, products and services.
  • Programming Languages: Extensive knowledge of basic concepts and capabilities of applying Python programming to solve business challenges; ability to use tools, techniques and platforms in order to write and modify programming languages.
Considerations For Top Candidates:
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in a Quantitative discipline such as Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, or other related degree and 8+ years of professional experience utilizing quantitative analysis/ data management, or a Master's degree and 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience applying Python (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, etc) programming and SQL queries to solve complex business challenges.
  • Extensive experience (typically 6 years+) with advanced data analysis and statistical methods such as regression, hypothesis testing, ANOVA, statistical process control, etc.
  • Extensive experience in practical applications of Machine Learning techniques such as Clustering, Logistic Regression, Random Forests, SVM or Neural Networks.
  • Knowledge of data visualization packages like Power BI and Tableau.
  • Knowledge of AWS services, Cloud ELT/ETL and Data Lake solutions (Snowflake/AWS) and applied knowledge of stackable solutions and automation techniques is a plus.
  • Experience in design / development of heavy equipment (ex. automotive, aerospace, engine, transmission, construction, mining, industrial, etc)
  • Advanced experience with version control / repositories such as GitHub
  • Experience operating in an Agile environment.
  • Advanced experience in quantifying the costs, benefits, risks and chances for success before recommending a course of action.
  • Must demonstrate strong initiative, interpersonal skills, Strong consultative skills, and the ability to communicate and tell compelling stories with data.
