Summary:

Conducts tests, calibrates, assembles and / or repairs electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical prototypes or existing products for conformance to established design standards. May also assist in formulating design standards through applied research by performing the following duties:

  • Disassembles/reassembles prototypes and / or existing equipment to inspect components for defects
  • Aligns, repairs, replaces, and balances component parts and circuitry.
  • Fabrication or repair of prototypes and / or test fixtures using hand tools
  • Basic MIG welding, flame cutting, grinding, painting, grit blasting, machining (including drilling, milling and lathe work)
Over time you will learn to:
  • Sets up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to test, evaluate, and confirm original design intent
  • Measures parts for conformity with specifications
  • Assists engineers in formulating test, calibration, repair, and evaluation plans and procedures to maintain precision accuracy of measuring, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment
  • Maintains R&D lab and machine shop area to Cardwell 5S standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 2 years fabrication and assembly experience.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and complete tasks independently
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, prints, and assembly instructions
  • Ability to write reports and edit procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, clients, and customers
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical relationships as would be necessary to determine high resolution and high accuracy measurements
Preferred Qualifications and Abilities:
  • B.S. technical college degree
  • Experience working in a lab environment
  • Advanced welding experience
  • Advanced manufacturing experience
Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to handle or feel and reach with fingers, hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is regularly required to lift up to 10 pounds. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. The vision requirements including: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat and vibration. The noise level can, at times, be loud.
