BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Java Web Software Developer, Remote.

Position Title: Java Web Software Developer

Location: Remote (Washington, DC)

Anticipated Start Date: 04/10/2024.

Expected Duration: 06+ Months Contract with Strong Possibility of Extension.

Job Type: [FULL TIME (40 HRS WEEKLY)] [CONTRACT], [REMOTE]

Pay Range: $50/hr - $53/hr.

Please note that actual compensation may vary within this range due to factors such as location, experience, and job responsibilities, and does not encompass additional non-standard compensation (e.g., benefits, paid time off, per diem, etc.).

Job Description:

The client seeks a senior-level Java Web Software Developer with strong business acumen for our client located in Washington DC.

Provides support to develop Web-based applications including online customer service for agency components to be able to deliver their services online. Provide support in developing the site concept, interface design, and architecture of the website. Provide support for the implementation of interfaces to applications. Working knowledge and experience coding in Java is preferred. Knowledge of several of the following areas is desirable: Active Server Pages (ASP), JavaScript, SQL Server, Visual Basic, JavaScript, MS Access, HTML, DBMSs (ex. - Oracle, SQL Server, etc. Experience in full life cycle development and Agile development methodology. Also, hands-on experience in analysis and design, working with business customer(s) and infrastructure teams to translate requirements into applications.


Required Skills:

• 10+ years advanced computer programming skills in Java/ J2EE, Web Services/Design/Development and APIs.
• 2+ years advanced computer programming skills in JSF 2.x/ Prime Faces, JSP.
• 4+ years of advanced computer programming skills in JavaScript/ JQuery/ AJAX/ Angular JS.
• Moderate experience developing/ supporting software applications using Java and more than one of these software technologies: Active Server Pages (ASP), JavaScript, Oracle DBMS, SQL Server DBMS, Visual Basic, JavaScript, MS Access, and HTML.
• Working experience in creating and maintaining applications written in Oracle PL/ SQL, Unix Shell Scripting, HTML, JavaScript, and .Net.
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, both individual and team-related tasks.
• Maintains attention to detail in high-pressure situations, and the ability to exhibit confidence and knowledge in solving problems.
• Senior JAVA Developers.

Strong knowledge of the following skills:

• Java.
• PL SQL.
• HTML/ JavaScript/ CSS.
• Basic LINUX usage (navigating, reading files, sudo commands).

Software knowledge:

• Rational Application Developer.
• SQL Developer/ SQL Plus.
• PuTTY/ WinSCP.
• WebSphere.
• Subversion.
• The developer should be familiar with the control-M jobs/ POB system, as well as the basics of how the AFT system works. We use AFT to package and export data downstream to MIRS and CDAS.
• Microservices design.
• GCP or AWS Cloud Development.

Skills in: DevSecOps, Secure Coding practices, and the Solutions Development Framework (Docker, Jenkins, GitLab).


Working knowledge of one of more of the following qualifications:

• Knowledge/ experience with Agile Methodologies.
• Knowledge/ experience of SDLC practices.
• Change Management and Configuration Management (VersionOne, ServiceNow, etc).
• Application Lifecycle Management (ALM).
• Kubernetes.
• Security.
• Performance tuning.

Additional Required Skills/ Experience:

• A degree from an accredited College/ University in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Able to perform all functional duties independently.
• Experience training/ mentoring less experienced personnel.
• Moderate knowledge of and experience with designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining complex Web-based software systems.
• Moderate experience developing/ supporting software applications using Java and more than one of these software technologies: Active Server Pages (ASP), JavaScript, Oracle DBMS, SQL Server DBMS, Visual Basic, JavaScript, MS Access, and HTML.
• Moderate experience collaborating with end users to define new Web-based software system requirements.
• Experience authoring or contributing to software-related documentation such as requirements specifications, design documents, technical manuals, and user manuals.
• Able to obtain Postal clearance.
• Excellent communication skills.
