General Description / Primary Purpose:

The Department of Art and Design at the University of North Florida invites
applications for an instructor position in Graphic Design and Digital Media to
begin in August of 2024.

The University of North Florida's Department of Art and Design is an
accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art
and Design. The Department comprises six major areas of undergraduate
study: Art History, Ceramics, Graphic Design and Digital Media,
Painting/Drawing/Printmaking, Photography, and Sculpture. The Department
expands learning opportunities for students and provides professional
enrichment for faculty and staff through a partnership with the Museum of
Contemporary Art in downtown Jacksonville, a cultural institute of UNF. In
addition, the Department maintains an extensive permanent teaching
collection of approximately 500 works by world-renowned artists.
The Graphic Design and Digital Media (GDDM) program is a competitive
limited-access BFA program of study that prepares students for professional
practice in visual communication. The curriculum emphasizes design process
and principles, technical skills and production methods, and research-driven
problem-solving that considers social impact as well as commercial potential.
Coursework focuses on print publications, branding and identity programs,
typographic design, packaging, UI/UX, and screen-based experiences. UNF
faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of academic
excellence in all phases of instruction.

Job Function:

The GDDM program seeks a graphic design instructor to teach primarily
foundation-level design and technical courses. Upper-level specialty courses
may be assigned when needed. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic
about working with pre-majors to help them develop the fundamental skills
necessary for success and advancement in the GDDM program. We're
looking for someone who brings their own creative experience and
professional expertise into the classroom, and who is dedicated to
integrating new technology into the curriculum in innovative ways.

Faculty Position Required Qualifications:

Expert knowledge of design principles, typography, layout, and process-in
both print and digital media-is required. Candidates must show evidence of
advanced technical and production skills using the most current Macintosh
operating system, Adobe Creative Cloud, and other design-related software.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organization skills are essential.
A minimum MA from an accredited institution in graphic design or a related
field is required at the time of appointment in August of 2024. An MFA from
an accredited institution in graphic design is preferred. This is an instructor
position with a path for promotion and a renewable contract. In addition to a
4/4 teaching load, instructors are required to participate in service to the
department and university.

Departmental Requirements:

The ideal candidate will hold an MFA from an accredited institution in graphic
design or a related field, three or more years of college-level teaching
experience or graphic design industry work experience, and a background in
motion, web, application, interaction or emerging media design.
