Position Title:Instructor/Assistant Professor/2 Year TermDepartment:Earth, Environmental, & Geological SciencesTerm of Assignment:Two Year TermTerm End Date, If Applicable: FLSA Status: Exempt = not eligible for overtimeWork Schedule: Salary:CompetitiveTravel:Less than 10%Brief Statement of DutiesBrief Statement of Duties:The Department of Earth, Environmental & Geographical Sciences (EEGS) at Northern Michigan University (NMU), on the shore of Lake Superior in Marquette, invites applications for a two-year term position to begin in August 2024. The successful candidate will teach a full-time load of 12 credit hours per semester in Fall 2024, Winter 2025, Fall 2025, and Winter 2026. The instructor will teach lectures and laboratories for EEGS Department courses related to natural resource management. The instructor's primary responsibility is teaching undergraduates, which includes preparing and delivering course materials, providing feedback and grades in a timely fashion, holding office hours, and supporting student success. Additional desirable qualifications include experience teaching undergraduates, professional experiences suited to teaching interdisciplinary courses, and experience applying quantitative analysis to address contemporary environmental management and ecological restoration. This is a campus-based position.

We seek a natural resource scientist with applied management experience and a demonstrated ability to teach in natural and physical science disciplines. The successful candidate will demonstrate professional capacity to teach courses including Physical Geography, Soils (lecture and labs), Wetlands (lecture and lab), Hydrology (lecture and lab), and Environmental Impact Assessment. Additional desirable courses may include Introduction to Environmental Science, Restoration Ecology, and Forest Science. We welcome applicants with professional experiences suited to teaching these interdisciplinary courses. Candidates with experience applying quantitative analysis to address contemporary environmental management and ecological restoration challenges are strongly encouraged to apply.Minimum QualificationsRequired Education:Master's DegreeDiscipline / Degree Area:Environmental Science, Conservation of Natural Resources, Soil Science, Forest ScienceRequired Specialized Training/Certifications:The minimum requirement for the Instructor rank is a Master's Degree.

The minimum requirement for the Assistant Professor rank is a Doctorate Degree.Required Minimum Work Experience:Relevant university level teaching.

Master's degree in Environmental Science, Conservation of Natural Resources, Soil Science, Forest Science, or a related field. A Ph.D. is preferred.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:-In-depth knowledge of the course material.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills and time management skills.
-Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level.
-Excellent problem-solving skills.
-Ability to work well with an instructional team, including but not limited to fellow instructors and assistants.
-Ability to develop and deliver curriculum for assigned courses and to assess student-learning outcomes in a timely manner.Additional Desirable QualificationsAdditional Desirable Qualifications:-Experience teaching undergraduates.
