Position Summary

The Department of Linguistics, Languages and Cultures seeks one part-time Instructor/Assistant Professor. This is a non-recurring, part-time, fixed-term position for a single course in Spring 2023 beginning January 1, 2023. MA, ABD, or PhD in Japanese literature, culture, film, media studies, or the equivalent. Preference given to advanced PhD student, ABD, Ph.D. or the equivalent. A Master's degree is required for the Instructor position; a PhD for the Assistant Professor position (all degrees must be conferred by the time of hire).

Required Degree

Doctorate -Japanese Language

Minimum Requirements
  • M.A. or higher degree in Japanese literature, culture, film, or related field;

  • One to two years experience teaching college students in a classroom setting in North America;

  • Native or near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English;

  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness (quantitative and sample of qualitative data from teaching evaluations);

  • Basic instructional technology skills, including navigating through course management systems such a D2L or Blackboard.

  • Desired Qualifications
  • Experience teaching Japanese culture and literature

  • Experience teaching a research-based seminar with a Japanese language component
