Position Overview:

As the Industrial Hygiene (IH) Team Leader, you will oversee and coordinate site Industrial Hygiene programs, understand Motiva's requirements to creating and maintaining a workplace which is compliant with all local, state, and federal regulations, and continually strive for improvement with an ultimate goal of achieving industry best practices. As part of the Health & Safety Department, you will work closely with HSS team members, medical, environmental, and other stakeholders. The IH Team Leader will provide advice on professional, regulatory, and company standards, exposure limits, and professional judgment regarding the adequacy of workplace controls.

The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong technical background in industrial hygiene and experience in the oil and gas industry. The IH Team Leader will have the ability to work collaboratively and communicate across all levels of the organization. They will have excellent project management skills and the ability to analyze and evaluate data to direct and produce required documentation and submittals.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing technical expertise and timely information to line management on the ongoing performance of work-related health risk management programs and survey/sampling outcomes
  • Assessing work-related health risks associated with chemical, physical, biological, and radiological hazards, and advising line management on suitable risk prevention or control measures
  • Providing advice to line management on strategic decisions associated with new and evolving federal, state, and local legislation and Company/industry standards and practices
  • Providing appropriate professional response to health-related incidents and supporting and advising on health-related incident investigations
  • Coordinating integration of industrial hygiene services into site/business emergency response and crisis management plans. Testing IH-related scenarios within the site emergency drills and exercises
  • Providing IH support and direction to employees, line management, HR, legal, and HSSE professionals
  • Interpreting IH risk prioritization and applying rational and balanced needs against budgetary demands
  • Supervising, mentoring, and developing IH professionals in the HSS organization

Experience and Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Health & Safety, Natural Science, Toxicology, Chemistry, or other related technical discipline
  • 10+ years of experience working in Industrial Hygiene at a refining, petrochemical, or manufacturing facility
  • Experience directing businesses in good practices managing occupational health risks, employee health and wellness programs, occupational health risk management, and building business cases for health and safety programs
  • Experience in managing health, safety, and welfare regulations as they apply to the workplace
  • Working knowledge of oil and gas operations and industry standards, processes, and priorities relating to industrial hygiene and safety programs

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Health & Safety or other related technical discipline
  • Professional accreditation/certification by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH)
  • 15+ years of experience working in Industrial Hygiene at a refining, petrochemical, or manufacturing facility

Physical Requirements:
  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots and hearing protection)
