This position maintains grounds, landscapes, streets and walks on the Dyersburg campus. Performs basic horticultural work.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Operates mid-size equipment such as sweeper, trucks, tractors and blowers, etc.

* Performs large scale mowing and overall care of the grounds.

* Works within grant guidelines to maintain arboretum.

* Cuts large limbs from trees with a chain saw.

* Performs other grounds maintenance activities such as watering, raking, and edging.

* Plants shrubs, trees, flowers and other plants.

* Re-sods and reseeds areas and mixes and sprays insecticides, herbicides, fertilizer, etc.

* Picks up and bags litter, broken glass, and tree limbs.

* Maintains work area in a clean, neat. and orderly manner.

* Maintains and repairs tools and equipment.

* Maintain pavements and recognize problems and repair, restripe, install signs and parking bumpers.

* Move, transport and relocate furniture and supplies.

* Set up and remove furniture and supplies for college events.

* All daily activities will exercise safety skills and awareness.

* Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exertive: Significant exertion on a daily basis. Awkward postures and work positions: sustained postures and work positions; sustained activities require strength. Frequent lifting (30- 50 lbs.). Some walking, pushing, pulling on a regular basis. Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors. Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency or severity is limited.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Operation of hand and/or power tools and equipment used in grounds keeping.

* Basic grounds maintenance procedures including mowing, edging, raking and weeding.

* Methods, equipment and materials used in gardening and grounds keeping work.

* Occupational hazards and safety precautions.

* Perform general grounds maintenance duties including mowing, edging and weeding.

* Perform routine grounds maintenance duties.

* Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds

* Operate power equipment safety and effectively.

* Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

* Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under some unfavorable climatic conditions.

* Establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees.

* Flexibility to work weekends and overtime.

* Above average attendance required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Eighth grade education.

Valid State of TN driver's license.

Requires two years of experience in landscape or grounds maintenance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High school/GED.

Minimum starting pay is $23,500 annually ($12.06 per hours). With additional experience pay increases to a maximum pay of $28,200.
