POSITION - Union - Garage Mechanic 1/C (UIE-CT-Operations)(R-03681)

Responsibilities

  • Diversified work, requiring considerable judgment and skill to perform unusual and difficult work in connection with proper repair and maintenance of automotive equipment.
  • Operate vehicles in traffic, ability to make periodic inspections of mechanical conditions of engines. brakes, suspension, and electrical system, etc.
  • In addition, be able to repair and rebuild worn and broken parts of equipment.
  • Ingenuity to diagnose and repair issues related to vehicle repair and assist others in doing the same.
  • Use standard work methods in making repairs cons stent with recognized shop practice.
    Create and maintain work notifications and work orders to properly administer maintenance and repair program.
Skills and Requirements

Physical Demand:
  • Average physical demand.
  • Occasional lifting and moving average weight material in difficult work positions.
Education:
  • Extensive knowledge of heavy duty and automotive mechanics including internal combustion engines, electrical and hydraulic systems and other components required.
  • Must have the ability to read and understand wiring, diagrams, instruction manuals, repair manuals, and parts lists.
  • Must be proficient in the use of scales, micrometers, feeler gauges, heavy and light duty scan tools, and automotive testing equipment.
  • Degree in automotive or heavy-duty truck repair or equivalent experience required.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with heavy and light duty vehicle and equipment repair required. This includes but is not limited to air brake, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, computer systems, suspension and drive train systems.
  • Possession of EPA, 609 certificate (Automotive Air Conditioning) preferred.
