Job Overview

The Fire Inspector and Occupational Safety Technician implements and provides guidance to Georgetown University Fire and life safety programs and occupational safety programs. This includes but is not limited to: Fire/ life safety building inspections, fire extinguisher inspections and tracking, issuing fire/ life safety violations, conducting fire safety training, conducting hot work inspections and tracking, conducting fire drills, assist in conducting incident and accident investigations, reviewing confined spaces, lockout tagout programs and other OSHA related regulatory programs.

This position is an after-hours emergency responder for fire investigations and/or occupational safety incidents

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

This position works under the direction of the University Fire Marshal / Occupational Safety Manager. Works closely with other departments such as Engineering and Facilities Management. This position will regularly interact with faculty and staff to provide customer service and guidance for fire and occupational safety related requirements.

This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization
  • 1-3 years of relevant professional experience
  • Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience in fire safety, investigation and inspection
  • Knowledge of OSHA programs such as hot work, logout/tagout, confined space, working walking surfaces etc.
  • Ability to use environmental monitoring equipment and office computers and software (including database software, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and writing)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills


Preferred
  • NFPA 1031 fire inspector
  • NAFI Fire Investigator
  • Experience with EHSA database technology or similar
  • Experience with EH&S in higher education
