Within the Dean's Office Administrative Services Team, our Financial Services team serves as the trusted, comprehensive resource for financial information and business processes in the IU School of Medicine, providing meaningful, timely, and accurate data; and support for financial analysis, budget, accounting, reporting and business services. Financial Services accomplishes their mission through knowledge-sharing and collaboration, serving as the leader for effective management and stewardship of financial resources, ensuring compliance with university, state, and federal policy, while providing support to departments, centers, and key stakeholders of the IU School of Medicine.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible for expertise in the operations and support of the IUSM Financial Services reporting solutions.
  • Works closely with financial data end users, financial analysts, and Business Intelligence team to gather business requirements, identify optimal financial reporting solutions, and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Leads assigned projects to develop new or revised financial reports, data analytic capabilities, and financial visual solutions (e.g. dashboards) in support of internal and external customer needs.
  • Designs, builds, implements, and maintains financial reports and reporting tools that address the reporting, business analytic, and forecasting needs of the School.
  • Utilizes data sources, models, and integrates data necessary for the design and maintenance of standard and ad hoc financial reports and analyses as well as visual solutions such as dashboards.
  • Collaborates with Lead Financial Reporting Analyst on publication of final solutions.
  • Oversees financial data refresh, validation, and error handling for centrally maintained databases.
  • Researches data sources and develops queries for standard and ad hoc financial reports requested by Deans, Directors and other administrative staff in the Dean's office and departments.
  • Provides financial information and analysis to IUSM leadership to assist in strategic and long-term financial planning and decision-making.
  • Assembles data sets, select reporting/data modeling/Business Intelligence tools, and perform analysis to complete the reports.
  • Collaborates with end user to determine the optimum graphical representation to convey impact of information and to highlight significant trends.
  • Creates, publishes, and oversees protocol for report validation and quality assurance of financial data.
  • Creates, reviews, and maintains business definitions, rules, and measures for consistent treatment of data, in collaboration with Business Intelligence.
  • Assists Lead Financial Reporting Analyst in implementing policies and procedures for quality control, business continuity, communication of changes, and chain of custody.
  • Builds and maintains additional crosswalks as needed to support IUSM reporting needs.
  • Conducts interviews and gathers and documents reporting requirements/needs from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and IUSM department contacts.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders, financial analysts, and business managers to ensure that requirements recommended to leadership address the business needs.
General Responsibilities
  • Performs detailed periodic fiscal analysis of income statements, balance sheets, and cash flows and compiles trends to guide financial decisions.
  • Provides specialized financial analysis support using measures such as past financial performance, economic conditions, price, yield, stability, and investment risk.
  • Interprets fiscal policies and acts as a resource to department; may provide guidance to lower-level employees
  • May serve as fiscal delegate for department accounts.
  • Presents findings using tools such as spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and technical reports.
  • Verifies accuracy of data and makes recommendations for corrections.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
Preferred
  • An educational focus in business administration, business analytics, accounting, management information systems, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years in finance, financial administration, accounting, or related field
Preferred

  • 5 years of experience in accounting or a finance related field, including experience in analyzing financial data and the production verification, and interpretation of financial reports

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
